Frequently asked questions
How do i add an electronic signature to a word document?
When a client enters information (such as a password) into the online form on , the information is encrypted so the client cannot see it. An authorized representative for the client, called a "Doe Representative," must enter the information into the "Signature" field to complete the signature.
How to put an electronic signature in a word document?
The answer is simple.
It's all based around an algorithm called Extended Validation (EV), an electronic signature algorithm that makes use of both public-key cryptography and asymmetric cryptography. If you've ever used an iPhone to sign a document, you'll be familiar with EV.
The algorithm was developed by cryptographers at the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers in the United States, and was implemented for use in the US Congress in 2005.
As the authors explain:
The Extended Validation algorithm, which is used in government documents to enable the authentication of the author, enables the authors to sign an electronic document using a key known to the public—that means that everyone in the world can verify the signature.
In other words, if you have the right key, then you can read and modify a document—and no one outside of that particular room (or in that particular meeting) can read the content of a document without that document's signature.
But how do you get the key? The key that you use to create an Extended Validation signature is a cryptographic key known to only you, the person who created the signature. But there's no one you can just give that signature to to get the same key. The best way to create an Extended Validation signature is to encrypt the key with a symmetric key—the most common kind of key in modern cryptography. And then you have to use the corresponding asymmetric key to decrypt the key.
But encryption doesn't do everything. You...
How to sign my pdf document?
I would also like to print or cut my certificate out and give it to my clients, so I would like to make sure to get a digital signature of my client (which I can use as a reference in case something changes later). In case the client is unwilling or unable to print or cut the certificate, would it be possible to have them print their own or download my digital signature for me?
I'm trying to sign a PDF document, but it keeps saying "Incomplete Certificate". Why?
The PDF file is signed by "DIGITAL SIGNATURE PROJECT PROJECT MASTER". How do I know this?
I'm trying to make a certificate for a person with whom we have a personal association, but I can't find their name on the project website. How can I do this?
This is a question I've gotten on the DIGITAL SIGNATURE PROJECT PROJECT MASTER page.
The person you signed on behalf of is in the project's database. If you haven't contacted them yet, you can contact DIGITAL SIGNATURE PROJECT PROJECT MASTER (you can leave a note to request a new signature, or use the "Email Signatures" menu item).
This website has a number of options for creating signatures, including the ability to upload a digital image, and there is also a DIGITAL SIGNATURE PROJECT PROJECT MASTER page specifically for the use of digital signatures.
When do signatures expire?
Signatures expire at midnight Pacific of the current calendar day. So, if you sign for the first time in an hour, you'll have to wait 1 minute before being able to sign again. After t...
