[Music] hey you guys hope y'all are having an amazing day so today's video is a PCS tips video I get a lot of questions about just tips on pcsing my husband is active-duty military on prior service and I actually am a military brat an army brat my parents retired out of the military as well and so we have pcs a lot as a matter of fact in the last five years we have moved every year the last five years so I just wanted to just kind of give some tips to help other military personnel other spouses things like that if you're new to my channel hello my name is Deidre I make videos about frugal living saving money getting out of debt and we are a military family so I do make some videos about that as well if you're interested in that type of content go ahead on and hit the subscribe button below I'd love to have you over here and yeah let's just jump into the video so these tips are not in any type of order and also if you have some amazing tips leave them in the comment section below I feel like my glasses I keep having this alright so some things that you can be doing right now are declutter you can always declutter you don't want to take stuff like just junk with you from one duty station to another you can take this time to declutter you can sell things donate things have a garage so like everything all of that whatever it takes to get rid of the clutter and kind of get a little bit organized with your belongings this is a good time to do that the second thing that you can do if you know the duty station that you're going to go ahead on jump on Facebook and find the wives group that is attached to that duty station oftentimes there's like two to three at least so join the Y's groups and then that way you can kind of get a feel for just like how the duty station is you can get a feel for the types of things that are going on on the duty station or the things surrounding the duty station a lot of your direct questions can be answered within the group often times if you want to know like how housing is there how are the schools there how is the community like all of that kind of stuff the wives can definitely answer those questions for you so make sure that you join the wives groups something else that you can do while you don't have orders in hand it's kind of decide whether or not you want to live on post or off post and kind of explore the areas like if you are gonna live on post kind of know like what are the housing options that you can have what what are the schools like in that area and the same thing was off post if you are planning to live off-post kind of have an idea of what areas you're thinking about looking at what the houses look like you may want to reach out to a realtor that can help you if you're thinking about buying a house kind of that's not a whole nother video but if you're thinking about buying a house start kind of have an idea of like are you gonna need a down payment if you're gonna need a down payment how much money should you save are you really in the right position to purchase the house if you purchase a house what is the result of it there's so much in that hole like buying a house I feel like that's a different video but if you are like waiting for orders now is now it'd be a really good time to kind of consider that again I did mention joining the wives pages because they can tell you like areas that they live in and what their thoughts are and often times you'll have conflicting you know thoughts and things like that so yeah this is a good time to do that and also it's very important to note that if you are living off post know that you more than likely will have to pay a deposit for a property like a rental property or even a apartment you'll have to pay a deposit so make sure that you have that money available also oftentimes for the utilities you have to have a deposit as well so have all of that stuff like keep all of that stuff in mind another thing with the PCs saying is saving up money that's something that you can always be doing even if you don't have orders you can save money so that need to pay deposit and just pay for things you'll have that money readily available oftentimes I don't know about now but and we've never really done this but and let me know in the comment sections below if you've done this but sometimes they'll give you money in advance for travel and sometimes they'll just like tell you to put it on the government credit card so yeah just kind of know like what you're doing as far as are you gonna get money and advance to travel or you're gonna use the government credit card to travel are you gonna use your own money and then just have them reimburse you but either way saving up money you'll never go wrong saving up money for a PCS never alright so back to the living on post off posts or purchasing a house or renting off post just kind of have an idea of what you want to do and know that if you are going to live on post different housing communities like different different ones offer different things and different ones have different like rules and regulations oftentimes you need to already have orders to get on the waitlist kind of find out like what you have to do to get on the waitlist and what your options are as far as living and maybe try to look at pictures or you know go on YouTube and see if anyone did any home tour so that you can see if you are even interested in living on post live on post or off post rent off post or buy off post those are some things that you should probably consider also if you don't have orders in hand something that you can do is go if you live on post go to the housing office and get the moving checkout list and kind of decide whether or not you're gonna clean on your own or are you gonna hire someone to do it and this you guys it really depends on where you're living at sometimes I've heard horror stories of people cleaning everything and still having to pay for cleaning so just kind of ask the wives like ask around on your local Facebook groups as the wise what their what they've done or what some of their experience has been with this and yeah you can always go to the housing office and get started on cleaning if you decided it's something that you want to do and you can also kind of be cognizant of what the checkout process is going to be and that will take some stress off of you as well because you'll already know like what you have to do alright so another thing that you can do creating a box number one now I have a separate video on box number one but basically a box number one is just a box that you take with you that is filled with things that you will need when you first get there now for me personally when we moved from Texas we were without our household goods for about a month a little over a month and so we ended up having to go to the ACS lending closet to get some things that kind of helped transition like helped us to make it through until our household goods got here and some of those things included cookware table chairs things like that so what I decided to do this year is create a box number one and some of the things that I will include in that box number one are like things that I could not get from the ACS that I had to purchase so they were repurchases so then once my household goods got here I had like triple of things that I needed because I had to purchase things to use them while waiting for my household goods I hope y'all understand what I'm talking about so for example shower curtains I had several shower curtains in my household goods but we were living in the house without our household goods so I had to go purchase two more shower curtains so in our box number one we're definitely gonna have two shower curtains rugs towels a little bit of bedding things like that so again this will be a whole nother video but if you go ahead on and start putting little things in your box number one or making a list of the things that you want to have in your box number one it makes it easier you're not scrambling at the last minute trying to get those things and speaking of list make your list you guys oftentimes we have so much going on and we need to kind of brain them like what are some immediate things that we have to get done what are a list of things that we want to pack for each child what are a list of things I need to go into our pcs finder so make your list and speaking of PCs finder again this is a another separate video but start creating your pcs binder and I have a really cool hat for the PCs binder but basically a pcs binder is a binder that you take with you that has all of your travel and important documents that they ask for at the next duty station so things like your birth certificates marriage license or certificates orders school records things like that all of that goes in your pcs finder and so if you start ahead of time just kind of getting those items together make a list of everything that you need to have in there and then start putting them in there and finding all of the things that you need to make a pcs finder it makes it really really easy for you towards the end so you're not scrambling trying to get these documents and they don't accidentally get packed another pcs tip that I have is utilizing the partial Diddy now basically a partial Diddy is you still have the movers come get all your stuff but whatever you move yourself you actually get paid for that as well so they actually like you have to weigh your car before you have to wait your car empty then put all that stuff in there and weigh it full and then they give you money for the weight so I always suggest doing a partial Diddy regardless of how much stuff you take because something is better than nothing any money that you get paid is better than nothing so yes always up for the partial day speaking of partial Diddy and all of that kind of stuff always keep good records keep all of your receipts keep them all in one place I suggest keeping them in an envelope in your PC s binder it's very important to have your receipts in all of your records because they ask for that stuff when you get to your next duty station when you have to end process so that you can get paid for it so keep good records another tip that I have is to plan your trips so when I say plan your trips I mean plan with hotels you're gonna stay playing your stops how long are you gonna drive before you take a break no kind of if you're going through a very like popular area like a vacation spot are you gonna be able to find a hotel in that tourist area are you gonna be able to stay there and actually like kind of enjoy the area if you have kids what types of things are you gonna stop to do to entertain them what types of foods will you pack with you planning and that also goes back to your list like kind of make a list of the places that you want to go make a list of like the snack she want to take so this will help keep you organized and I'm a list maker so I always go back to making the list and it also acts as a way to brain dump which kind of takes that stress off of you so playing your trips make a list and then go and research places and hotels and also when you're planning your trips make sure that the hotels that you're picking if you have pets make sure that the hotels that you are picking they allow pets and kind of be cognizant of your pet deposits because different hotels charge different amounts of money sometimes it's refundable and sometimes it's not and so it's very important to go into your pcs knowing these things if you're taking a road trip it's important to plan your trips and know your destinations where you're gonna stop at if you're flying what types of things are you gonna pack what type of things are you gonna put in your carry-on all these things can be enlist and then you can just pack them when you get around to it typically the military pays for 10 hotel stays so if you know that you're not gonna have to pay for it out of pocket like you should probably pick our nice one but one thing that Phil is very very important is number one if you have pets knowing if they allow pets if there is a refundable pet deposit and knowing how much it is because it might not be within your budget second is to know if they offer breakfast because if they offer breakfast that's a free meal that you don't have to pay and it doesn't count against your per diem so if you're gonna pick a hotel really be cognizant about whether or not they offer free breakfast because it will save you money down the road and if you're kind of picking your hotels ahead of time you can actually take the time to look at the reviews which can be very very helpful so I always say plan ahead and look at those hotels closely there's also a website that you can go to to find pet friendly hotels beforehand and I'll leave that website right here on the screen and I'll also leave it below in the description box so the next one is a huge one and that is if you are transporting weapons know the different laws in the different space that you're crossing through some allow open carry some don't some don't allow concealed carry different states have different rules some have reciprocity some don't so you kind of want to know those things going into this road trip if you're traveling on the road you want to know about what to do with your weapons you want to know whether or not you're gonna be able to ship your weapons you just want to know the rules and the laws around your guns before you get on the road or before you ship them and also have all of your documentation with you your concealed carry license like everything have it with you also make sure that you are planning entertainment for the kids take them into consideration it really helps to make sure that you're kind of tiring them out letting them stretch their legs and run around and just be kids because it makes for a more pleasant road trip if you will or just so a more pleasant trip period because even if you're on the plane and they've been like driving for hours get to the airport and then you know they've been sitting and not really stretching their legs and they can be fussy kids get fussy sometimes I'm also making sure that you have snacks for them sometimes you're just hungry or they just need something to munch on so make sure that you have a plan for all of that make sure that you're making enough stops for your pets and your kids as well pets need to get out and walk they need to use the bathroom and while I'm talking about pets make sure you pack like something for cleanup because sometimes pets get carsick and something that was suggested to me when I first got my dog was to take him on shorter trips like shorter road trips just to see how he does on trips because sometimes vets can like prescribed medicines for animals that help with the nausea and stuff like that but you never know if you need that until the actual road trip so sometimes it can be in your best interest to go on a small road trip before the PCS road trip so that you can ensure that they'll be able to withstand the drive and also I always suggest having some type of cleanup just in case the dog or cat or whatever your pet is just in case your pet gets sick you know you want to have something to clean that up so keep that in the car at all times another thing is to travel with the first aid kit if you're not already doing this now is a good time to kind of pack a small first aid kit and keep it in the car just in case it's better to already have those things with you than to have to go out and look for them when you actually need them and in addition to first-aid kits make sure that you carry like your medicines especially prescription medicines but even your over-the-counter medicines for your kids it's nice to have with a little travel pack of those things so that you can get them and have them when you need them versus having to go off course and look for them when you need them so things like tylenol ibuprofen hydrocortisone nausea medicine allergy medicine things like that band-aids all that kind of stuff had that with you and also your pets their heartworm medicine is whatever medicines your pets require make sure that you keep those with you as well you don't want to acc dentally pack those things and then have to go buy them or go try to get them from a vet or something like that it just won't be cost-effective that way and it'll be really inconvenient so just make sure you keep those things with you at all times speaking of prescriptions if you are having a hard time like getting a prescription from a doctor or if you have a hard time getting like a doctor's appointment with a pediatrician for example and you know that your kids are on specific medicines and you know that it can be like a long wait to get those appointments with those doctors so that you can give those prescriptions really had to make sure that you have refills that will carry you over until you get to your next duty station to get a new primary care manager and all that kind of stuff I hope y'all are following so what I'm basically saying is like for example my daughter she takes allergy medicine but it's really hard to get a doctor's appointment with her doctor like they are basically like two months out and I know that we're getting ready to pcs what I've already done is we already had a doctor's appointment I scheduled that thing two months ago and I also have three I actually have four months of refill for that prescription I've already like talked to the doctor and let them know that I may possibly have to call them to get another prescription so they already know they already have it in my file that I may possibly have to call the nurse and had that refilled again until we actually get an appointment with another family care practitioner so what she actually did was she hand jammed me a prescription or she wrote a prescription out paper like a hard copy of a prescription so that if I have issues trying to get another refill or if I have issues getting in to see a PCM then I actually have a paper prescription that I can just fill at a pharmacy and I won't have to really you know jump through hoops to try to get her prescription while waiting for an appointment another suggestion that I have is to if you're going on a road trip to make sure that you keep cash make sure that you keep coins because you never know when you're going to hit a toll now if you're kind of planning ahead like I mentioned before then you would probably know that you are going to have tolls but I always suggest keeping them just in case additionally when you're traveling oftentimes you need those coins for the laundromat so it's just always wise to keep coins and cash on hand when traveling make sure that you are not traveling with stinky shoes and stinky socks I don't know about you but I have gone on a road trip and my kids had the most terrible smelling shoes and it really made that trip difficult so make sure that you are not making the same mistake I did and just kind of like I have some foot spray or make sure there's shoes and socks to clean and make sure they have spares make sure that you know their sandals aren't stinky because it would it could possibly be difficult for you on the trip right also with the military you do get per diem with food it's a set amount make sure that you're getting a bang for your buck so kind of plan what types of foods your family will be eating on the trip kind of plan out what types of restaurants like your default restaurants your cheaper options versus your more pricier options if you can pack food pack food just know that the military does pay per diem per person but you do want to plan to get a bang for your buck or not go over so just plan and plan out your food on this road trip and let me know in the comments section below like what types of things what types of foods do you pack for your road trips I'd love to hear I'm always trying to like up my food game so yeah speaking of food we have something we call the car fridge but what it really is is just the cooler so I normally keep a cooler with cold drinks and cold foods a pack like fruits and veggies that can be you know eaten right there on the spot lots of little snacky things that's a whole nother video but yes get yourself a car fridge if you have room for it and so if you already live off-post and your pcsing make sure that you notify your utilities if you're renting make sure you notify your landlord oftentimes there's a clause in the contract that states if you have orders you can get out of the lease and if you are going to rent off-post make sure that you're reading the contract to make sure that they have that military clause in there because you never know you know when you'll fall on orders again and so yeah you want to make sure that you have a military clause in that contract when you're moving into a place as once you have your orders in hand shouldn't you notify your job and your school if you do not have orders yet but you know for sure that you're going to be going something that you could be doing it's kind of looking at the job market and your receiving area the area that you're moving to go ahead on and look at the job market if you're currently working see if there's any opportunities to transfer jobs things like that you can always do that as well if you know that you're moving but you don't have orders in hand and you're in the middle of like gifted testing or trying to get an IEP or anything like that for your kids sometimes those processes take a long time or they have testing at a specific time and maybe they can move up that timeline for you so like yes if you have kids that are in gifted or they have an IEP or anything like that make sure that because you don't want to be scrolling at the end so make sure that you get all that stuff situated let all of the people know let all of your teachers and counselors and and all that kind of stuff you get to teacher let all of them know what's going on so that they can get the ball moving on those things another PCs tip that I have is to make sure that you keep your school records in hand so for your kids especially if they have an IEP or a ver and gifted or anything like that make sure that you have the school records it's also important to have the school records because sometimes you're trying to register your kids at one school and the other school they might still be closed for the summer because different schools start school at different times so and I actually ran into this where one school was still closed our school was starting and they couldn't get those records because the school no one was there not no administrators or anything so that's why it's so important to have a copy of those school records in hand don't pack them put them in your PCs binder alright so another pcs tip that I had is to pack your car before the movers get there the reason why this is important is because often times we'll pull stuff out and we'll say okay all this is going with us and then the movers come and that you have like a room or a closet court it off and then all that stuff will not fit in the car comfortably so it's important to pack your car to make sure that you have the things that you need to make sure that everything is going to fit right and if you have too much stuff you can put it in the house so that the Packers can get it also I do suggest just keeping the stuff in the car so that the Packers won't pack it so sometimes people will put things in a closet sometimes people will put things like in a room until the movers not to go in there but what has the work best for us is to actually pack our car before the movers get there because it guarantees that they will not pack it and number two we can see whether or not everything will fit comfortably and you know it won't be too late we won't have to throw things away or give things away so that we can travel comfortably in the car okay so another pcs tip that I have is to avoid over packing because it can just really make your trip just you don't want to travel with a bunch of clutter you don't want to take a bunch of stuff that you really don't need so just avoid over packing again I'm normally like we'll pack the car before the movers even get there and then by doing that I'm able to see if we're going to be able to travel comfortably and again if I pack a car and it just seems too cluttered I will take things out of the car and allow the movers to move those things to avoid traveling in a cluttered car another thing is if you are going to have movers come movie because some people do move themselves but if you're gonna have movers come move you or help you move make sure that you kind of like accommodate them have drinks for them leave me a comment in the comment section below and let me know if you tip them because I've also heard of people tipping them I have tipped them before but then I regretted it because once I got my stuff I noticed that they didn't pack things too well so yeah just make sure that you know you're kind to them the nicer you are to them like they seem to pack your stuff a little bit better if you're like being rude to them they tend to not pack things as well so yeah just drink sometimes people will give them lunch like order pizza things like that so let me know in the comments section below of what you do another thing that I suggest is to take pictures and inventory the things that you have now this is something that you can do even when you don't have orders you know like your big-ticket item go ahead and take pictures of them and as you're buying new things keep the receipts for them taking pictures of things and inventory your high ticket items that really really helps at the end because if they break something you already have the information and you're not scrambling trying to get it when you're filling out claims forms and speaking of claims forms when you're pcsing once you get your stuff if you see that something is broken putting your claim immediately because you have a limited amount of time before you can claim things and this brings me to like another thing that I don't have a little list but I think that it's very important to mention try to unpack as much stuff as you can while the movers are there because oftentimes we'll move and then we'll keep things in boxes and we'll wait months and months and months before we open the boxes and then once we open them we realize that things are broken and it's too late to make a claim so when the movers bring your stuff to your home try to go ahead on and unpack as much stuff as you can they are required to take those boxes and packing paper really they're required to unpack your stuff as well but oftentimes people don't really allow them to do that or want them to do that I recently started doing that and I'm really really glad I did so yeah the more stuff you unpack they are required to take the paper and take the boxes and so that's less clutter and stuff that you have in your home make sure that you are putting in your claims as as fast as possible and the best way to do this unpack as soon as possible now there are a PCS tip that I have is to take your expensive jewelry with you or your expensive heirlooms and this I don't have that much and but my sister-in-law she packed some very expensive jewelry and it got stolen so I suggest just taking yourself with you right another pcs tip that I have is to make sure that your car is ready for the trip meaning that it is drivable it has an all change tune-up anything that it needs like if any lights are on get that checked out make sure that it's clean fully gassed all that kind of stuff before you start your trip it's very very important because you don't want your car to break down and then of your trip so make sure that your car is good to go another pcs tip that I have is to avoid sketchy areas now if you are doing what I suggested earlier and planning out your trip you already know where you're gonna stop at and you're pretty familiar with those areas I suggest stopping and very lit areas very high populated areas like nice areas nothing and you kind of know like I kind of know where I'm gonna stop at if it's looking a little sketchy we'll keep going but also keep in mind that you want to make sure that you're not getting too low on gas before you're stopping and then you're forced to stop in a sketchy area or you run out of gas so that's another tip is to make sure that you're washing your gas like know when you're gonna stop and let me know in the comments section below when you stop for gas you stop at halfway or a quarter to a tank like when do y'all stop to fill up your gas tank also speaking of cars make sure that you are traveling with your vehicle registration and your proof of insurance that is always important especially if you get pulled over you want to make sure you have all of your documentation and then oftentimes you need like that stuff anyway so yeah just make sure you have all of that in your car another thing that I suggest is to make sure that your military service member is traveling with their uniforms and I personally like a lot of people will move will allow the Packers to pack their dress uniforms I don't do that because for me well first of all the way that we move our uniforms we keep them on a hanger and like a garment bag and it allows for enough room for the dress uniform but my husband's dress uniform is so expensive I consider it a high ticket item and I would hate for that thing to get messed up and then we have to repurchase all of that and if you're a military spouse you know what I'm talking about like that those dress blues are expensive all of the decorations and everything on there it costs a lot of money so we just travel with that and then now like you just never know what you for me have to go to you never know when you're gonna get your household goods so I rather my husband have all of those things with him so that he is prepared Hey and so another tip that I have for pcsing is to make sure that you make arrangements for your motorcycles ATVs RVs boats kayaks know ahead of time what you're doing with those items for example in RV if we had an RV and we were traveling overseas I would park it probably at my mother-in-law's house so yeah your RVs motorcycles all of that kind of know like what the rules are as far as if you've taken it overseas or if you're taking it to another state also know how much it costs to transport it yourself and if you can't transport it or take it with you where are you going to leave it so there's something very very important to think about when you're pcsing additionally if you are going overseas knowing like what type of immunizations your pets have known if you can take your pet with you how many pets you're allowed to have with you if you have pets and you're going to PCs and you're going to live on post or off post know whether or not you can take those pets with you or if you are only allowed to have a certain amount I know some places only allow you to dogs or two cats and so if you have three animals then you either need to you know find somewhere else to stay or possibly rehome one or have a family member friend keep one so just kind of knowing those things ahead of time is very very important also knowing what are the rules with pets like if you're traveling I know some places your animal has to be quarantined for a certain amount of time so knowing those things in advance can be very very helpful and of course keeping the right documentation for your pets like having a copy of the immunizations and the shot records and all that kind of stuff keeping that for your pets is very very important and I also suggest having that and your pcs binder as well and some I last tip is concerning the waiting list and I added this as I briefly talked about it before but I just wanted to talk about it again this is something we're currently going through and I just want to stress this just I just want to stress this because it's very very important it's pcs season and this is something that's going on across the board different duty stations so get on the waiting list as soon as possible but have a contingency plan know what you're going to do if you have to be on that waiting list for an extended amount of time if you're going to stay in a hotel or if you're going to go ahead on and rent or if you're going to just opt for a different property or opt for smaller home just kind of have a plan also if you're planning on staying in a hotel until the house becomes available do you have the funds to pay for the hotel because again remember the military they only pay for ten days TLE so make sure that you know how you're going to fund the remainder of the days are you going to put it on a credit card or you can pay cash or do you have the money in your budget period so just start planning for those things because it's very very important and if you're on the waiting list and you opted for a smaller home have you done the work to downsize beforehand which is why that decluttering is so very very important so again the last tip is just to really think about your options when you're on the waiting list because that is something that is happening to a lot of people right now and people are like going berserk right now trying to figure out what they're going to do like while they're on the waiting list so that's all you guys I hope you enjoy this video I hope this video was helpful please please please leave all your comments in the comments section below all your suggestions sharing is caring we really learn from each other and so if you have any amazing tips tricks or hacks please please please leave them and section I would love to hear it alright you guys don't forget to give this video a thumbs up and Learn everything you need to know to use airSlate SignNow eSignatures like a pro.

How do you make a document that has an electronic signature?

How do you make this information that was not in a digital format a computer-readable document for the user? " "So the question is not only how can you get to an individual from an individual, but how can you get to an individual with a group of individuals. How do you get from one location and say let's go to this location and say let's go to that location. How do you get from, you know, some of the more traditional forms of information that you are used to seeing in a document or other forms. The ability to do that in a digital medium has been a huge challenge. I think we've done it, but there's some work that we have to do on the security side of that. And of course, there's the question of how do you protect it from being read by people that you're not intending to be able to actually read it? " When asked to describe what he means by a "user-centric" approach to security, Bensley responds that "you're still in a situation where you are still talking about a lot of the security that is done by individuals, but we've done a very good job of making it a user-centric process. You're not going to be able to create a document or something on your own that you can give to an individual. You can't just open and copy over and then give it to somebody else. You still have to do the work of the document being created in the first place and the work of the document being delivered in a secure manner."
