hi my name is kevin moon i am the head of the math department at george school i've been at george school now for 27 years i've been teaching for 38 years almost 40 years i want to share with you some of the things that we're doing in the math department we have some absolutely fabulous changes to the curriculum we're very excited about it one of the things that we're really looking forward to is offering data analysis classes there would be one for the stats kids with the stats background and one for the kids with the ap stats programming background we're looking forward to offering modeling classes which of course is big in math and the other big thing that we're really excited about is the opportunity for kids to take sequential math classes also we're really excited about more pathways through the ib this will allow the ib to be more accessible to more kids it certainly happens in math that sometimes you take a course you didn't quite need the pre-wreck for the class you really want to take we are going to find ways to help kids bridge that gap between where they are and where they want to be even within the same year something else we're really excited about in the math department is the ability for students to test drive a course suppose a student finishes intensive pre-calc and they can't quite decide if they want to take some calculus which would be kind of more of what they're doing and have been getting ready to do or do they want to take stat the stats teachers will say this is a math class but it's not a math class it's something in addition to numbers and analysis that is specifically statistically oriented well in the new system we are going to be able to offer a short intensive a five-week course in each of those and students could take the first calc mod we're calling it and they could take the first stats mod and then decide which they wanted to do and maybe they want to do both there'd be a way to do that in a single year so we're very excited about that option [Music] you
