this video I will walk through creating bulk users in natural directory I'm going to show you two methods the first method uses PowerShell and the second method uses a GUI tool to import users from a CSV so to start off you will want to go to my site and go to the text version of this video to download the CSV files the powershell script and the GUI import tool i've got links available they're free to download so once you get those downloaded for the first method which is the powershell method we'll need to open up the csv file and enter in the user information so the csv files got these columns headings here which will correspond to the partial script and the partial script we'll look at these fields to import the values of them so you'll want to enter the information at least for the first five fields everything else is optional so you get the first name middle initial that ones really optional but you'll want to give your users a first name a last name and then a username and a password everything else is optional yeah I go into more depth in this into the text-based version but for this tutorial we'll just go with this these two users here and then you'll want to save this file once you save it the next step is to import the script and you'll need to modify two fields in the script so you can just right click on it edit to open up the editor here and the only things you need to modify is where you save the CSV file you'll just need to modify this line right here and point that to the csv file and the other thing you to modify is the user principal name you'll just need to modify this to match your domain name so my name actor under domain is ad that's Active Directory to directory procom and then you just save it I'll walk through a couple things here you see all these fields here these are the fills that match up to the CSV file so I've cluded a lot of common fields that you would normally fill out for users you know city email address street address telephone company job title but any actor directory attribute that you want to add you can just add that modify this script you'll also need to add it to this area as well one of the thing to point out here is this script will require the users to change password at first logon this can be removed anything is partial scripts so anything can be modified so now that I got that setup I'll save it and at this point it's ready to run and it should import those two users that I have set up my CSV file so let me pull this up and I'll run this so this is a good sign it just brings you back to the prompt that so the script is run successfully if you get errors or warnings it will pop up here in this area so let's jump over to active directory let me verify those users were created so here's one of them Sam Smith I'll put it up and it looks like it's successfully imported the user created the account imported some of the optional fields I had in there their telephone number email I think I had address in there yeah city and state so and then this other account so is also imported it and you can see it's marked for user must change password at next logon so that is a success that is method 1 using PowerShell ok let's go to method two which is the GUI bulk import tool this is a great option if you don't want to use PowerShell scripting you know I've got the download information on my website free download for the bulk import tool and the CSV file as well so just like the first method we need to start off with the CSV file and edit make any edits to that we need this the headings on this one is a little different they will need to match the attributes that are being used by the the tool I've got a complete list of those on my website but the CSV file also includes a lot of the common ones but if you don't know what Sam account is or surname I'll list those out on my website so let's go if you go through a few of these Sam account is like the username and password given names the first name initials was obvious display name it's obvious the surname is the last name some of these are self-explanatory some of them don't make much sense but I've got the mapping of those on my website so with this setup I will save this and I'll open up the bulk import tool the install is really easy it's just like next next next so once you open this up I will select the CSV file enter in credentials to active directory you'll need permissions to create accounts and then you can test your credentials so credentials passed so I will hit next and this is where the mapping comes in where you'll you'll want to map the CSV headings to the fields in this bulk import tool so this is why you need to match those fields up if not it has troubled importing but if they match you basically just go and add whatever attributes you want to import and it automatically will match those to the CSV so I'll add display name surname just to give you an idea how you do these address and it didn't find a dress in my CSV file that's why I didn't add it there see what else do I have I think I've got company so I found it so once you get all this mapped out you'll want to save that mapping that way next time you load this tool you won't have to go through and manually map all this again you could just load your save map so I have a safe map in here so I'm going to run button so I'm gonna open up my safe mapping apply it it's you can see it's listed all those attributes match them up to my CSV file there's a couple here that it didn't so I'm just gonna remove them so with the mapping completed I will move on to the next step and this will give you a preview which is nice so you can verify that the CSV file and the mapping part is mapping these correctly to the to the right fields so I could verify that looks good I'll wait create created successfully so now I'll just go into Active Directory and verify this hit refresh in both methods you can you can specify an o' you to import the accounts too you don't have to leave it at the default you can for example I wanted to import these into my marketing folder I can just specify this oh you my CSV file and it'll import the camps there and actually I had I had one of those set up in the CSV so you can see it imported this user here into the marketing folder so verify it's imported from the fields address board the other count which is right there so it created it and port the telephone you want to change password s log on so that's it for method to you'd enjoyed this video then subscribe to my YouTube channel
