hey EMS I see parents if your students are using canvas during EMS distance learning I'm going to show you how you can set up a parent observer account to be able to monitor what's going on in the canvas courses for your children now don't worry you're not going to see anything other than the interactions between the teacher and your student and that means other parents will not be able to see any interactions with your child so the first thing that needs to happen is the student needs to sign in to canvas we suggest using the SSO and as soon as they are in their account they're going to click on account settings and then on the right-hand side click the link that says pair with observer this will generate a code some browsers allow you to highlight control C copy and then paste it into the other window others don't so it's a great idea for you to jot this code down paying special attention to capitals and lowercase numbers because it is cap sensitive next the student can walk out and you're right back to the login screen from here as a parent you're going to look at the link at the upper right hand corner that says parent of a canvas user click here for an account and you're gonna fill in this information putting the pairing code in this bottom box after a few minutes you're going to be in with your new account and you will be able to see all the courses your student is enrolled in so you can click into the course you'll be able to see all of the content of the course including assignments discussions grades files all of that don't worry when you click on grades you're only going to see the grades for your own student but what if you have more than one student if you go ahead and have that student sign into their account go to settings and get the pairing code you can easily add an additional student what you'll do in your account is click account observing and then you can add another pairing code here click the blue plus student button and you'll see that I'm now observing both kids so when I go back to my dashboard which is the main section here I've got all of the courses that my students are involved while we're here I want to show you an announcement at the top of your screen asking you to set up notification preferences you'll probably notice that you're going to get lots of notifications from canvas unless you come in and you tailor these to what you want so when you click notification preferences there's a whole list of things that can send notifications these notifications are broken down into really specific items so if I hover over due date the pop up tells me that the due date notifications are going to...
