hi everybody this is tiffany from healthy living homestead and i just wanted to make this video real quick because i figured out how to do something really cool and i wanted to share it with you so a little background we have a farm store and we have some products in our store that are obviously all from local farms so a product like this is typically at the grocery store it would have a barcode on it for easy cash out so um i'm hooking up a barcode scanner so that i can scan products and cash people out more efficiently and um some of my things have a barcode on them but most do not so i would like to say i'm a computer dummy but i guess i'm not the dumbest on computers i can figure some stuff out so i figured out how to generate and print barcode labels for free and i stick it right on there and it's so pretty okay so all you need is a package or two of the avery labels or really any brand i guess i would get the avery ones um because i'm going to use on my computer i'm going to use the avery design and print online website to do the label so um when you're done doing this you'll have a nice little sheet of labels all ready to stick on your products so that you can scan them really quickly so um when i was researching how to generate a barcode i realized there's lots of different types of barcodes and all that um so i just wanted a standard one and i could through the square point of sale that i use there was an option to um to have square retail generate and print custom labels for all your items but it was a subscription for 60 a month and i'm not paying that i mean no that's no so um just to put a little sticker oh my goodness i don't think so all right i'm gonna turn my camera around and show you on my computer how you can make and generate barcodes and labels and print them yourself for free okay so here we go we are at barcodegenerator.org and this is the screen that pops up so i found it most easy to use code 128 standard and then i actually need a label for sugar shapes so i'm just going to type in sugar with one hand shapes and then i'm gonna hit create barcode now watch this over here it's gonna change sugar shapes so just by using your item name without having to make up and create 11 digits or however many numbers it wants you to create per item you just type in the word of what it is and if you have different varieties of it you can just type in sugar shapes one or or the sizes of them um and then it just generates right like that so now you just hit download and then i'm gonna save it i'm gonna save this as sugar shapes these are maple sugar shapes i need barcode for these save and then you go to avery design and print online it looks like this and so then right here in the product search bar i'm going to type in whatever labels you bought so that would be specialized sizes or whatever specific sizes so those are the labels i got so we're going to click that and then you're going to click select this template and then i want mine to be that kind of layout and design my own so then you're on this screen and you go to image add image from your computer just as easy as that sugar shapes there it is open so here we go there's the label that we just made on that free website i'm gonna make it if you crop the label you can actually take the writing right off the bottom of it [Music] and then at the top i like to do adding a text there you go sugar shapes easy as that so now you want to hit save save this project as sugar shapes so every single label sheet of labels that i have created i'm gonna save right here to my online account okay so then they're online saved if you ever lose them or you can hit print and preview so they'll look like that on the sheet perfect hit print yourself print it yourself and then hit get the pdf to print now then click download and then when it goes to your download just save it as whatever you're going to save your project as i'm doing sugar shapes as we have already established save boom done now i can go in there i can open up that document and i can print it and i will have a beautiful sheet of labels printed this one is honey two pound so it's nice if you write it what the labels for on the label because then if you have a folder like i do a folder you know of all your labels then you can tell which ones are which easier so yeah and then if you do want to do another one you just hit start new project and you're back at square one and go back over to your generator type in a new barcode um rebar codes generate barcode it changes it and there you go let's start over thanks for watching well thanks for watching i hope that that helps and um if you subscribe and like our channel and hit the bell for notifications you'll be notified when i come out with any new videos that will help small business owners thanks thanks for watching
