so I'm going to talk about today is how we merge records marketa has tools called merge records tool allows you to take mark records from take a mark record file and merge data from another mark record file into a original file so what this is good for is you have fields in one file or you have file without OCLC numbers and the other file does you can merge them together into a master record that's what i have here i have a file as a scale see number has a title with non-latin it characters and then i have a second file here this is going to be my source file it's the one that has the data that I actually want to keep titles has two titles one that matches those scales to record one that doesn't so this is kind of a tricky match for mark at it because market it does matching based on a variety of data but titles obviously play an important part but the other thing it it looks at the data around a record to determine whether or not there are enough match points to demon as a match so how do we go about matching these so and mark at it let's enter tools merge records go ahead and give it the source file so that's the file that we want to merge the data into so that's our master record go ahead and select the merge file go ahead and create a save file the way we have both we go ahead and we tell it what type of record want to do there is no identifiers so we're going to use the mark 21 method mark 21 uses a set of specific fields you go ahead and customize them here these are all the data points get used during the match process I'm just going to go ahead and use it as is and what I'm going to do is I'm going to merge selected field data merging all unique data will actually merge all data that's unique the destination record generally it's not what you're going to want to do but for a really brief record and then pulling in non brief record data it might you can merge an overlay all data so it'll take any data and it's in one record and overlay what's in the source record or you can merge selected fields which is the long night generally tend to use I'm just going to go ahead and merge the 001 go ahead process at the records been created you go ahead and we looked at the merge file and we'll see that the CLC number has been added it's going to head merged onto the source field so that's how you would do merge records and marquette it
