Notarize countersign verification
Hey, guys. It's Katie from the Davis Companies. Today we're going to show you how to complete Section 2 of the I-9 Form as a notary. If you are a notary public, you can act as an authorized representative and complete Section 2 of an I-9 on behalf of an employee. First, inspect the forms of identification presented to you. All acceptable documents are listed on page 9 of the I-9 Form. You'll need either one document from List A, or you'll need one document from both List B and List C. These forms of ID must be original documents, no photocopies. And remember to never accept expired IDs. The most common forms of documents from List A are a U.S. Passport or a Permanent Resident Card. If you plan to use one document from both List B and C, the most common forms are a driver's license, a Social Security card, or a birth certificate. Now let's move on to filling out the I-9 form. On page 8 in Section 2, fill out the employee's last name, first name and middle initial. Next, fill out the documentation section. Start with the document title. Next, fill in the issuing authority. For instance, on a passport it's typically the U.S. Department of State. Or on a driver's license, it's typically the Registry or Department of Motor Vehicles. Fill in the document number and expiration date. And remember, do not use abbreviations. Under the certification section, bypass the employee's first day of employment and move on to the boxed items. Sign and date the I-9 and include your title as authorized representative. Then print your last name and first name. Do not stamp the I-9 Form. Now you know how to complete Section 2 of the I-9 Form. Thank you so much for watching. Be sure to subscribe for more helpful videos.
