the teacher read something very interesting of the textbook so the next word is schreibtisch school well it's it consists of schreiben means right and tish means table to allah and i had to share my school desk every other week with somebody else so when i used to go to school in germany we actually had to rotate so um we are sitting next to different kinds of people and get to know the class so the next word is tafe blackboard i hated when the teacher would call me out and i had to go to the blackboard and do some math or something and i was just like so embarrassed and i would never raise my hand when the teacher said okay i want to go to the blackboard i hated it when i had to go in front of the class and write on the blackboard fruits i love fruits apfe apple yes so in germany there's a lot of apple fields and you can go apple picking anamana liplings is their apfel or the apple and yes so one of my favorite fruits is the apple himber raspberry yes in in germany it just grows everywhere even in our garden and so it was very very yummy yes my mom used to make a lot of raspberry marmalade fizzy peach is one of my favorite fruits too especially the japanese one i do have to say they are one of the best yes they are punished the japanese peach is one of the most famous and expensive one actually in the world kiesha cherry where i used to live now it sounds like i live like on the fields but there was actually another cherry field but it was so good and yummy and they're so big the keshe is anna mana liebling's and yeah the cherry is one of my favorite fruits as well trauber grape in germany there's like a lot of those little grapes and they're not that big i guess it's because where i live it's rhineland it's bon cologne there's a lot of grape fields to make like wine in germany there's a white grapes and most common like the dark grapes to uh make wine hobbies that's a good one yes let's start briefmaking collect stamps i actually did that a long long time actually for a few years and i was really into it and i was really clean and neat about my stamps and they need to be really perfectly in order and i was very proud of my stamps and i was like imagining to become like really rich ones yeah so atkins fashion in london as a child i collected stamps from different countries and would order them after country and yes so i was really into it and i still have them actually play chess you know sometimes i watch tv and this is like hard i mean there's like competitions and i've i've never played played it so it's interesting uh to watch but ichabe and i never played the chess these are like really good hobbies tansen dance yes well i love to dance too and either to go out or with friends and dance when i was younger actually my parents forced me to learn how to dance like waltzer and all this classical dance so i had to do that i remember and i didn't have that much fun actually but i had to yeah again with my friend and tansen i like to go out with my friends dancing ein music instrument spielen play a musical instrument i'll skinned a music instrument and yes as a child i actually learned a few musical instruments one was the piano the guitar so we're now getting into the modern era m internet certain serve the internet yes i do that for hours when i'm surfing on the internet i do that for hours and i really survival lessons and take care you follow all the steps i'm going through with you today and then we make sure that you all be on track with all your goals in learning german i'll finish reading one german book by reading 10 pages a day um i know we have some great german philosophers like good and chiller maybe you should not start with this kind of stuff it's a bit heavy even german speakers struggle to understand all that stuff take something easy and then reading is fun i think reading german is a great way to master the german language so go ahead 10 10 pages a day make sure my testing i'll pass my german test um yeah whatever test that is like there's all this a1 a2 b1 b2 or if it's um yeah test stuff there's the guti institute all those are great if you if you plan on studying in german then you have to um you have to reach a specific level and pass in a test i think that's usually either the good institute or the c1 and there's test stuff dsh so if you plan on studying in germany you should make sure that you pass on one of those tests it's a bit higher than the b2 level and yeah listening these lessons here is the first way to get there is i'll fully understand one german movie by watching it every day i'm not so sure if that's the best way to do it might get quite boring after the third fourth or fifth time but i don't know if you like binge watching all over the same movie yeah then might be a good idea to just switch over to german at one point so if you already know all the phrases by heart in your mother tongue that could be a way like bad boys that's a good movie wouldn't watch it every day though okay i think you i think we'll find better ways to make you learn german without you having to watch the same movie every day all over again okay let's try with the next one for my indulgences i'll give a three minute introductory speech in german to my german friends um yeah first um thing to do here is find some german friends um if you live somewhere else i don't know but i'll never everywhere so just go out shout some of uh the stuff that you already learned with me and then whoever speaks german we'll be like oh i understood that so you can find some german friends this way then gives them your three-minute introductory speech and then they already know who you are and so yeah maybe they are friends afterwards maybe not but at least you've mastered one of the steps to reach your german goals for the year if you are i'll memorize five german songs ooh that's a hard one even i don't remember memorize five german songs i i know maybe 99 red balloons it's a good one eat easy to remember to start with that i do know more english on there the better songs unless you really like german music then um we have some cool rock bands yes the totem holden should listen to that stuff good stuff or the aster same same direction if you manage to uh memorize five german songs please leave a note and sing them i want to know of flashcards definitely there is a good way to go for if we added scene postcard of deutsche and my deutsche band i write 10 postcards in german to my german friends yeah again uh first find some german friends that you said can send the postcards to uh if you haven't been successful in the wall with shouting around and giving you a three-minute introductory speech and you haven't found any german friends yet just write 10 german postcards to your grandma my grandma's love postcards just i don't know add some little pictures of yourself and they'll be totally fine i don't know grandmas are full of surprise maybe they even speak german but yeah you see it's worse finding some german friends so that you can give your streaming into the introductory speech you can send 10 german postcards german friends are very useful people say it's hard to find german friends that's not true we're everywhere we're nice people is i'll learn how to talk about past present and future events um i think it's worse also to grab a german grammar book where you can also do your 10 pages in german a day and study the german past and present forms because yeah my lessons are very good to learn something new vocab and to get a little bit the feeling of the language and get some cultural insights but i'm not really going into detail too much with grammar so my opinion to really study grammar and a book is the best way to go because you can really like sit down think it's also a bit like you can use your flash cards and write down the different forms of a verb in the past and in the future future it's there past there present right here fagan height dreamers i don't know memorizers and right here we are if you have i'll master 150 words by learning five words a day that's a good goal new words broaden your vocab um five new words is good like it's not too much in the beginning after a couple of days it gets more like after seven for example after a week you would be with 35 words 35 words are good you can make a lot of sentences maybe not so much sense but a lot of sentences was uh 35 words but yeah no no kidding i mean um having the goal of every day having five new words is pretty good so you always kind of really broaden your horizon and of course from time to time you'll forget some but therefore you have your flashcards to repeat and yet also it gives you it gives you a chance to really get a step a little step forward day by day so five words every day that's it for today i hope you liked the lesson i hope you um get yourself a plan now what you have to do to keep learning how to ask and answer typical questions in german like who are you and where you're from is essential for conversing with german speaking people in this video we'll teach you how to ask and answer the following questions and more in german what's your name how old are you where are you from how's the family what are you doing here what do you like to do what do you do for a living and why are you learning german [Music] let's start with a question who are you in german who are you is babies too [Music] it's not a very common question so you probably won't have to use it that much instead you'll likely ask bihastru what's your name v heist do to answer this question or to introduce yourself you can say for example ish anya my name is anya ich and of course you'll need to replace anya with your own name similarly you can also just say ich bin anya and again replace my name with your own if you want to ask about someone's age you can say the alpis du how old are you to answer this question replace 26 or sex on svansish with your age and say ich benzeksons fancy i'm 26 years old a question that often follows the previous one is where are you from in german to say where are you from you say where comes to vo here comes there are two common ways to answer this ich kamme aus rusland i come from russia i'm an american ich bin americana ich bin americana if your home country is already known however you may be asked a question like beijirstat in spanian which city in spain beijing in spanish state in spanish you can then answer the question by stating the city you're from followed by vastu shonda have you been there for example bilbao and that's where the conversation can get started if you happen to move to a different city or country it may be helpful to know the verb [Music] for example if you live in munich you can say yesterday now we'll learn how to ask about the family it's common in germany for one of the first questions someone you've just met would ask you to be hastu vista do you have siblings vista vista and the possible answer is you may also want to talk about your family members as well you can say for example my mother is jurisden my mother is a lawyer miner mutter ist my mother is my sister lives in hungary in unga next let's learn how to say what are you doing here when translated into german what are you doing here is pasmastu here if you're a traveler a good idea is to share the length of your stay in that city and ask for some recommendations you can say ich bin here which means i'm here on vacation is and then say something like ich bin nufe and partaga here i'm just here for a couple of days ich bin noor and partaga here here and remember as you're being asked different things you can always kindly return the question by saying and do to then ask for recommendations you can say basoliciazine what should i see here as an alternative you could mention the name of the city by asking something like vasolis in hamburg zine what should i see in hamburg vass zollich in hamburg zayn this is a great way to keep the conversation going and maybe even find out about some cool local spots if you feel like sharing your profession in german the following question will surely come in handy firstly to ask if someone's a student you can say piston student are you a student bist du ein student visto en student actually if you look very young germans might ask you this as well an important point to note however is that student for men or students in for women in german is used exclusively for university students younger students are instead referred to as shula for boys and chula rin for girls but there are two more ways of asking if someone's a student you could also say or if the person seems to be younger question are you still attending school guest do not guest to say what do you do for a living in german you say pasmastu beruflish what do you do for a living vas the answer to this question is simple but there is something you need to be careful about normally the sentence structure of german is the same as that of english in particular you're able to translate word for word for example ich bin einmann i am a man ish but when it comes to occupations the article ein is dropped entirely you would therefore say for example ich bin schrift stella i am a writer since every job title in german has a male and female version though women would instead say if you don't want to talk about your position you can just say the name of your company in german we use the preposition by for saying you work at so-and-so company for example ich aabaita by google i work at google ish by google another question you should know how to ask is what do you like to do what do you like to do if you like to study languages you can then answer this question with ich nan again i enjoy learning languages ish sp without a doubt you'll get people asking about just how far you've taken that interest they might ask we feel spahn how many languages do you speak vi you can then answer this question with for example ich bater english polish and ambition deutsch i speak english polish arabic and a little german english arabic you might also hear someone's language ability described with a verb perhaps she speaks six languages fluently fleecent super it's a pretty formal verb and it implies a great mastery over the languages if you have other interests aside from learning new languages you could answer with for example ich bizujko kunst mozean gan i like going to art museums [Music] the sentence structure used here is an easy way to describe something that you like to do just say what you do such as i go to museums and then add the word gan to express that there are of course different reasons as to why you want to learn the german language in this example let's say you're learning because your family members were ethnically german or spoke the language attenboroughbundt all of these are valid answers many people may also want to know how long you've been studying german the typical way of asking would be bilanga lance to schon deutsch how long have you been learning german v you could then answer with for example a little more than a year an bishop although it might sound a bit rude in english german speakers might then reply with daffy presto
