all right good evening this is jared newcome brampton fire emergency services and today i'm going to be talking to you about rating messaging under war-like conditions many times uh on the fire ground we have high heat zero visibility uh and high background noise so today i'm going to talk to you not so much about what's being said but the skills necessary to carry out your radio messaging so very first phase is orientation and the way we do this is we always position our radios in the same fashion antenna to the left and we take our antenna underneath the microphone retaining strap by doing so if in any situation we're inverting going through windows we've fallen or if we're crawling our radios will not eject secondly by orientating our radios the same way all the time we're familiar with the dials and toggles and their locations keep in mind that all our drills are done with gloved hands okay uh very first phase is locating the on off dial which is our first first dial just uh to the left here i can turn it on turn volume up and turn volume down secondly we need to locate the channel selector channel selector is the second knob to the to the left and at times you may be asked to switch fire ground operating channels we can do so simply by locating and adjusting if for some reason you can't hear you switch all the way to the right your default position is one and you count back one two three four five six back to the fire ground operating channel that you're required to work on next drill locating the orange emergency button yes i can locate it on my remote mic or i can locate it on my radio itself the way i do that is with a gloved hand take my my finger on the inside of the antenna slide all the way down to the base and close to the channel selector and press down perfect now keep in mind as you're doing these drills you're gonna you can do it either on your own or with with your crews and your crews are gonna provide you with feedback that's quite comical the next drill uh it is locating the uh talk around so we have a toggle on the very front it's just in front of our channel selector and what we do to to to locate it again this takes practice slide your finger down the channel selector to the smooth portion of the radio and you'll feel it through gloved hands pull your finger forward towards your chest and push to the left and that will activate it into the toggle position sorry the talk around position then back to the right to the repeater this is it for our drills welcome back this is uh phase two of our radio training and this is audio intelligibility under high noise environments the positioning of the microphone if i'm within two inches this is going to be test one test two is positioned right against the voice port so i'm gonna go on here and do some radio transmissions for you that's one two inches testing testing testing testing test two is directly against the voice port so right away there's an increase in volume of the radio transmission now we're going to do it with a high noise tool we're going to use the bullet saw all right sean [Music] [Music] [Applause] okay so that's the completion we did so first test second test second test right up against thank you
