Getting freelance clients has always been an interesting topic for me…And by interesting, I mean an absolute roller coaster.Like most others, when I first started looking into this world of online freelancing…I couldn’t help but see all the opportunity out there today.Whether it was realizing there were millions of potential prospects around the world that I could connect with from the comfort of my couch, or coming across numerous freelance marketplaces that took care of all the heavy lifting for me…It seemed impossible to not find clients, so I did what any reasonable person would do…I took the leap and became a full-time freelancer.Now when I first started, I decided to begin my journey as a bookkeeper...And did so because it was the one thing I knew how to do.At the time I had my Master’s in Accounting, along with 5+ years of somewhat relevant experience (Commercial Loan Officer)...So I didn’t think finding clients would be a problem, and to start things off…I decided to try the holy grail of lead generation, SEO.Like everybody else, I absolutely loved the thought of clients coming to me at all times of the day…Instead of having to signNow out to them and be an annoying salesman, so after making this decision…I started blogging like a madman.I’m talking 2 blogs a day for the first 3 months, as I knew I had to get my “foundation” built…But after cranking out an insane amount of blogs, and noticing that I hadn’t gotten 1 lead from it yet…I immediately took a step back and asked myself a simple question:“What in the hell are my doing?”I mean, here I was…Pursuing this dream of becoming an online freelancer, primarily so I could make more money and have all the freedom I needed…But without realizing it, the exact opposite had happened…Because I was working 80 hours a week for no pay.Needless to say, I knew I couldn’t do this much longer - as my bank account was running dry…So I decided to bite the bullet and try Upwork.Won’t bore you with all the details now, but after taking a few courses - I was actually able to start landing clients on Upwork (even after switching skills from bookkeeper to copywriter):And that was awesome, but it didn’t take long to notice a new problem that came with it…The freelance rat raceSince you’re here right now, it’s probably safe to say you haven’t signNowed this point…And I really hope you haven’t, because I’m not going to lie - it’s almost worse than not being able to find clients at all.It’s almost like a “purgatory” of online business, where you think you’re free - but you’re really not...And on top of that, it’s also something 97.9% of freelancers run into:There’s a lot of reasons why this happens…But as you can see in that previous email, most of it comes from really not having clarity on one defined offer.Instead, we get stuck in this vicious cycle of taking on any work we can get - as we’re desperate for new contracts…And even though I understand the logic, as I’ve been there myself…It’s also one of the worst things you can do, as it stretches you pretty thin…And I don’t care how hard you can hustle, there’s only so much time in a day - and it eventually catches up to you…Which is exactly what happened to me.Panic attackAgain, not going to bore you with all the details now - as it’s not too relevant…But needless to say, after working a crazy amount of hours each week - and having little to show for it…I eventually hit my breaking point and had a panic attack.One of the scariest things I’ve ever run into, and it sucked at the time…But in retrospect, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me…Because it forced me to “wake up” and finally realize something had to change.Before this, I guess I thought I could just “hustle” my way through hell…And keep doing it until I hit the other side, but this panic attack made me realize there was no other side…Which meant I was essentially on a hamster wheel to nowhere.With that said, after a few days of thought - and planning everything out…I finally realized I had to cut down on my expenses, mainly so I could buy myself time and figure this out…So to do this, I moved back home with the parents and started reading everything that’d help me get out of this rut.From sales funnels to crazy advertising methods, I tried it all - and had a little bit of success with some of it…But nothing really resonated with me, until the day I read:No B.S. Direct Marketing by Dan KennedyNow if you’re not familiar with Dan Kennedy, he’s a marketing legend who specializes in copywriting…And since I’d recently switched roles (becoming a copywriter), I knew I could learn something from him no matter what…Which ended up being A LOT more than I expected, but out of all the information I read in this book…My biggest “aha” moment happened when he mentioned how he got all of his clients with direct mail.Like every other copywriter, he did this with a “sales letter”...And right when I read this, I was almost baffled that I’d never heard of this before.Not from the “direct mail” perspective either, as it was 2016 and I didn’t feel like sending physical mail...But I really loved how “simple” his process was.It was really just sending one thing to his potential clients, then letting the letter do all the work after that…And even though these sales letters are far from easy, I’d actually been learning this skill for the last 6 months - so I decided to put my knowledge to the test and give it a shot.Spent the next few days putting everything together, and once it was done…I ran into the final part of this process, figuring out how I was going to get it in front of my ideal clients.Again, didn’t feel like copying Dan’s strategy to the T - as I didn’t want to learn direct mail advertising…So I thought about it a little bit longer, and then a great idea finally hit me…Why not do this was a “2016” version, which would be turning it into a blog post…And boosting that blog post in front of my ideal audience, via Facebook Ads?I mean, the same logic was there…And if anything, this method just saved a few trees…So after thinking about it a little longer and being unable to find any downsides to it, I decided to give it a shot…And let’s just say, it was the smartest thing I’ve probably ever done.First $3K clientNow I’ll be honest, at first - I was scared to “waste” money…So I started off real small, spending a whopping $10 on my first day…But after seeing how I was getting clicks for 30 cents, and actually having somebody sign-up for a free consultation after spending $12…That was all the results I needed to see, so after that - I decided to triple my ad spend and do $30 a day after that.Not saying it happened on the first day, or the second day…But then on the third day, it finally happened…I landed my first client with this method!Now excited was an understatement, and it was actually a free consultation that I received on the second day - just didn’t have our phone call until the 3rd day…Which was amazing in itself, but here’s the part that really surprised me…The client's “willingness” to pay my worth.Coming from Upwork, I was used to all these cheapass clients who were looking for cheap work - so saying anything over $5/hr seemed to piss them off…But this client was different, as they cared about quality results over cheap labor…And 10 minutes after our call, I received this notification:Which meant I essentially spent $95 to get a $3K client, and better yet - had an asset in place that could do this for years to come…And here’s the exact steps you can do to benefit from this strategy as well.Step #1 - Pick one offer (and target market)As I mentioned earlier, one of the worst things you can do as a freelancer…Is be a “generalist” that offers everything under the sun.Not only does this make you look desperate and in turn, clients pay you less…But on top of this, it really ruins all “clarity” and direction in your business.In other words, if you don’t know exactly what you offer - and who you help…Then it’s really difficult to create a “sales letter” that’ll actually connect with one market, so this is the first step you always want to do.This also seems to be the hardest thing for every freelancer to do as well, because it’s something that really comes with experience…But to start, just think about a main “problem” you can solve.I know this might sound too simple, but when you really think about it - the only thing clients ever pay a decent amount of money for…Is something that solves a problem for them, so that’s always the best place to start.To give you a few examples of this, when I first started thinking about my offer…I was a copywriter, so I started writing down typical problems my clients were having.These included anything along the lines of:Couldn’t get sales (e-commerce)Couldn’t get sales (course owners)Couldn’t get clients (service providers)...And at this time I actually had a good amount of experience with selling online courses, so that’s where I started.From there, I was able to dial in on a target market…And that’s where the next “tricky” part comes in, which is understanding levels of awareness.This is also something that takes a lot of time and training to fully understand, so if it doesn’t make sense yet - don’t worry about it…But to give you a diagram of what I’m saying, here’s a general overview:And in this situation, I wanted to target somebody who’s already tried to sell their online course before…But didn’t get any sales.Knew this was the perfect market, as they’d already went through all the trouble of creating a course - so they didn’t want to feel like they’d wasted their time, and in turn…Were more apt to pay somebody to fix this problem for them (and actually get sales from their course).Then on top of that, they also understood selling courses wasn’t as easy as everybody thinks - where they can just set up a “landing page” and get sales that way…So they’d be more open-minded and understand what I’m saying, when I talked about the concept of funnels.Anyway, after picking this target market - I moved onto the next step:Step #2 - Create a sales letter (disguised as a blog post) that answers their main questionI’m not going to lie, it really surprises me how many people mess up advertising in today’s world…Because instead of understanding how the easiest way of getting in front of your clients, is by simply answering their questions - as it’s something they want to read…Most people burn through their advertising budget by posting stuff that looks like ads:And in turn, doesn’t do them any good (as people are burnout on this).With that said, I knew this market’s biggest problem was simply not being able to get sales on their own…So to get things started, I just wrote a sales letter (disguised as a blog post) that showed them how to accomplish this goal.Really didn’t hold anything back, and told them everything they needed to know…Which is another important thing to note, because if you really want to show your market that you know what you’re doing…It’s important to explain everything in full detail.I know a lot of people get worried about this, as they think their target market is just going to take their information and do it themselves…But if you have the right offer, that never happens.In my case, I knew clients wouldn’t just steal my information and try it themselves - as it took a long time before I was actually able get good enough at my craft and start seeing results…Then on top of this, the current market had an immediate problem they wanted to solve right away - so they weren’t going to be patient enough and spend the next 6 months trying to figure this out on their own.With that said, after creating this post over the next few days - I was finally able to move onto the next step…But one last thing I wanted to mention before signNowing that point, was to ALWAYS include a call-to-action at the end of your post.If you don’t do this, then you’re losing money…As people won’t understand how to move forward and work with you, but at the same time - it doesn’t need to be complicated either.Really all depends on what your next step is, but for the most part - people usually do “free consultations” at this point…So if that’s the case, just leave something at the end that says something along the lines of:Interested in seeing what profit leaks your website has? If so, let me know on the form below…and I’ll gladly take a look (fo free)!Alright, now that we have the hidden sales letter (i.e. blog post) ready…It’s time to move onto:Step #3 - Getting it in front of the right audienceNow in all honesty, with all the options available to us today…The hardest part of this step is just choosing which platform you want to use.For the most part, you really want to think about what platform your target audience is on…So for example, if you’re targeting:Entrepreneurs, then LinkedIn might be your best bet.On the other hand, if you’re targeting people who are trying to improve their Facebook Ads…Then Facebook might be the best option - etc, etc, etc.With that said, this part is pretty simple - as it seems like at least one segment of every audience is on every platform…But the hard part comes next, when it gets down to targeting.Now again, most of this is actually because most people just never pick a target market…So they’re wandering around aimlessly, but in my case - since I was targeting online course owners…I decided to do Facebook Ads, and target everybody who was interested in the “typical” online course tools - such as:UdemyKajabiTeachableCourseraThinkificEtc…Then after that, I let Facebook take care of the rest - as they’re really good about seeing who’s clicking on the ad, and putting it in front of the best audience later on…Which then takes us to:Step #4 - Closing the dealThis is also the last step that most freelancers struggle with, and not because they’re bad at “sales” or anything…But because nobody really teaches us the business side of things.Hell, to be honest with you - I show a lot of my clients how to get sales without ever jumping on a phone call…Which, a lot of that depends on pricing…But for the most part, if you create an irresistible offer that clients want - then sales is pretty much non-existent after that.Again, something that takes a little bit to truly master…But just so you have a general idea of how to create your first offer, you always want to create a package that looks like this:Item #1 - The main vehicleItem #2 - Something that overcomes an internal false belief (i.e. they think their own shortcoming will prevent them from signNowing a goal)Item #3 - Something that overcomes an external false belief (i.e. something that’s out of their control, but prevents them from signNowing the goal)Item #4 - Something that overcomes a vehicle false belief (i.e. one last problem they have with the vehicle, usually accomplished with a warranty)Item #5 (optional) - A sweetener that closes the deal…And that’s all you really need to know, but I know it’s helpful to see live examples…So to show you what I mean by this, here’s an example offer we created a couple months ago…For a Wordpress developer that specializes in e-commerce.Item #1 - I’ll build you a customized Wordpress website (main vehicle)Item #2 - I’ll create a customized training video for you, that shows how to update your website once I’m done (a lot of people were worried about this, as they didn’t think they could update Wordpress by themselves - and didn’t want to pay somebody to do this for them)Item #3 - Mini-course that teaches you how to create sales funnels (people were worried about building a brand new website but not getting any traffic on it, so we created a mini-course that showed them how to do this. Worked great as it was something we created once, then included in every package).Item #4 - 6-month warranty that took care of any maintenance issues (people didn’t want to pay somebody for a full project, then have to fix it later on)Item #5 - Free themes and plugins (again, nothing crazy - but enough to make the deal even better)....And let’s just say, this package worked so well…That it allowed him to charge $3K per website, and get clients at all times of the day…When he was struggling to land clients at $1K before this.Long story short…Getting high-ticket clients really isn’t complicated, and for the most part…Complication is actually what usually kills most freelance dreams.Instead of just understanding that you need to focus on one offer and target market, then show them how you can help (works best with a hidden sales letter)...Most people make this hard on themselves, and try to “hustle” their way through…Which usually means taking on low paying clients and working around the clock, the worst thing you can do.Just remember, if you can successfully follow the process of:Find one offer and target market (that can pay your worth)Create a hidden sales letter (disguised as blog post)Put that hidden sales letter in front of your target market (done in countless ways)Create an irresistible offer that sells itself…Then you won’t have to worry about taking on low-paying clients, or worse yet - the vicious cycle that every freelancer goes through.Hope this helps and if you’d like to see to see if I can create one of these campaigns for you…Then check this out

What is your review of Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME)?
From my blog happybschoolerXIME - The AestheticsRankings: One of the first things XIME-B students/alumni identify themselves with, is its ranking. There are about 4000 odd B-Schools in India (Some other sources say it’s within 3500) and a handful are being opened every year. XIME-B students/alumni are happy to know that XIME is ranked from 12th to 35th across the several B-School rankings. The validity of these rankings may be questioned if only a few rating sites happened to give these ratings. However, many famous Indian ratings sites and a considerable amount of foreign sites (Like Eduniversal) have also rated XIME-B. Even if we consider that XIME-B is #35, it means being in the top 1% of B-Schools in the country. We’re not better than our big brother XLRI. We’re certainly not in the league of the plethora of successful old IIMs. We’re definitely a few sprints behind TAPMI or other colleges in its vicinity. But trust you me, we’re getting there. For a B-School which is only 25-years old, we’re already in the track with the big players.Identity: Many people in India don’t know the brand XIME, true. This is only because XIME does not advertise a lot. We’re not the kind of B-School that has to constantly remind the world that they exist by thrusting themselves on to whatever media they can advertise in (You know what kind of B-Schools I’m talking about). Doing so only passes on the advertising cost to the students in the form of ever-increasing college fee. XIME’s tuition fee is considerably low for a B-School of its cadre and the year-on-year increase is also very nominal. In some years, it doesn’t increase at all. Of late, we too have started with digital advertising. We have to face the reality that an increasing amount of the population is going online everyday. But the promotion is, by large, student-driven and the focus is still on protecting the future aspirants from a heavy load of fees.Discipline: Yes, the attendance requirement is 100% (Okay, not quite, read through). And yes, being late to class, even by 5 minutes, is frowned upon. Now imagine that you’re a mid-level manager in your dream company. The company wants you to check in at 9:00 AM sharp everyday and does not want you to miss a single working day (Because the role you play in the company is substantially important). Would you go anonymous and write a blog about how cruel your boss is? No, you won’t. So, why the raised eyebrows when the same happens in a B-School, which is anyway one of the corner-stones of a successful corporate life? That being said, students do get APs for sickness (With proof), participation in outside competitions (With permission) and other valid reasons. If you miss a class because you felt like taking a day off or were too lazy to get up in the morning, then yes, you lose attendance (And marks). Besides, this is Management Education we’re talking about here. Missing a class means missing out on understanding an important part of the syllabus, regardless of how small it is. Remember, good habits are hard to learn and easy to forget. But bad habits are easy to learn and tend to stick around for a very long time. Discipline is part of the learning process in Management Education. Any B-School which chooses to ignore this, is either too big to fail or blissfully ignorant of its negative side-effects in the long run.Attrition: Yes, there is a considerable amount of attrition among the staff. This is largely due to the fact that the students hold substantial power in the firing of staff members. Every semester, two feedback forms are filled by the students (That makes it six for a year), where students rate teachers. This rating is taken seriously by the management, so much so that staff getting a consistently bad rating are shortlisted to be fired at the end of the year (The actual firing, I’m safely assuming, happens after a thorough review by the President). Regardless of this fact, the staff are indeed very knowledgeable in their field of study. We have former alumni of IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C, XLRI and other premier B-Schools in India as professors. Many of our visiting faculty have prolonged corporate exposure and some are even educated at Ivy League colleges like Harvard and Stanford. It’s just that the method of teaching varies from one faculty to the other. Hence, there is inevitably varied opinions among the students. I recall here the quote of the character Morticia Addams from the movie The Addams Family: “What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.”International Tour: The international tour is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that nobody should miss. Additionally, since the students will be going in huge numbers, there will be a considerable percentage of discount. You cannot even dream of covering 6-7 European countries in a budget of Rs. 1.3 to Rs. 1.5 lakhs if you choose to go on a tour by yourself some time in the future. And know that this is the last chance you have of being a ‘student-in-your-teens’. Money can always be earned back. But experiences once missed cannot be lived again. In the end, that’s what life boils down to: a series of experiences.International Tie-Ups: XIME is among the very few B-Schools in India that boasts a wide range of International Tie-Ups. While most of these tie-ups are for research purposes, the students also get their fair share of benefits. The primary among the tie-ups is with the BRICS B-School Association founded by our very own Professor Philip. Every year, student representatives from all of the BRICS Countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, gather in any one of these countries for a grand showdown of cultural, sports and debate skills. This tour is often semi-sponsored by the college, which is great. The multi-cultural interaction is the best part about this opportunity. Talking about multi-cultural interaction, Audencia Business School, located in Nantes, France is a premier B-School which is ranked in the worldwide Top 100 B-School list every year. Audencia offers a ‘Winter Program’ ever year, which is inclusive of classroom sessions on a range of Management subjects, industrial visits, institutional visits and city tours. Every year, about 20-25 students of XIME are selected and sent to Audencia. The selection process includes screening based on CGPA and a personal interview by the staff. Audencia’s Winter Program would be considered as an alternative for both the SUPA and International Tour. Since the program is a little longer than the International Tour, the students may be asked to pay up extra (But it is, of course worth paying up for). The other opportunity is the Internship Program at University of Redlands, California, USA. This is a marketing-only (Marketing Research, specifically) internship offered by the University of Redlands, CA, USA. The selection process here is rather simple. The university send the requirements, the students apply and the university selects the students they want to host. This offer is especially lucrative, as it includes a big fat stipend. That is to say, if you manage your expense, you can save up to one lakh while returning to India! They have no reason to put their, or anyone’s interests before the students’. Companies, regardless of whether they’re called in early or late, already have a defined set of roles they’re willing to offer to the college they’re recruiting from. Same goes to the range of salary packages offered. The placement figures mentioned in the website are not inflated, contrary to popular belief. By the way, it’s crazy how many B-Schools compete with one another to push placement dates earlier and earlier every year. What’s next? Students get placed at the end of the first year itself?Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship is a key focus area in XIME. We have a dedicated student body for Entrepreneurship (Empressario Club) which conducts regular workshops and hosts sessions with some of the bright entrepreneurial minds in the country. XIME is also willing to help students gather funds from Angel Investors for their business ideas. But of course, the student has to take the first step here and should be persistent enough to see his idea through to fruition. Also, XIME’s ‘Incubation Centre’ is also functional. The Incubation Center works as an office space for budding startups. I can proudly say that students of my batch (Batch 21) are among the first to volunteer to work with startups during their critical early months, providing assistance in Finance, Operations and Marketing. The day is not far when some of the most innovative startups make it out of XIME’s Entrepreneurial laboratory. XIME is also among the first few B-Schools in India to celebrate the Entrepreneurial spirit via an “E-Week” every year, which has talks, workshops, contests and an internship fair, where students who are willing to work with startups are taken up as interns. A note of warning about working in startups: They require tireless work, which means working 12-14 hours a day for possibly 6 days a week. But on the positive side, the roles offered in start ups are phenomenal and if the start up becomes a success, your career graph literally jumps (One can hope to become a functional head in a matter of 5-7 years).Diversity: Diversity is the watch-word of good B-Schools. But XIME perhaps plays it up a notch. Rightfully described as “little India”, every batch of XIME contains students from all over the country, with students hailing from at least 14-15 states and speaking different native languages. Gender diversity is also very much there. In our batch, there are almost as much girls as there are boys (I remember President sir mentioning once that the lowest percentage of girls in XIME in any batch was 42%. And the highest was in Batch 22: 63%). The fresher/work-ex mix is also almost 50-50. And so are other factors such as age group and educational background diverse. Every XIME batch is an eclectic mix of students who are truly representative of the society in which they will foster.Curfew: Yes, girls are asked to get into their rooms earlier than the boys (Currently, the time limit is 09:00 PM), but it is only for their own safety. I cannot talk for the girls, but I assume that most of them would agree. The college is responsible to the parents of the students. Seeing as how it is a residential program, hostels are second homes for the period that they here. Would you riot against your parents if they asked you to get back home by 10:00 PM? They probably have, at times. The wardens and the guards have a similar kind of responsibility. Boys, however, can rejoice. They can enter the hostel campus at any time. But of course, entering the hostel one too many times at odd hours will attract the attention of the warden. If you’re friendly with the guards, they may cut you some slack, but that’s about it.Cut-Off: The cut-off of Entrance Exams are usually used to filter candidates. The level of filtering required is determined by the college. Just because the cut off is low does not mean that sub-par students get into the institute easily. To quote an example, in 2015, TAMPI’s cut-off for CAT/XAT was 80%le. For a college of their cadre, it may seem quite low. But their selection process is very rigorous and they make sure they select only those students whom they think are fit for their institute. The same can be said of XIME.XIME: The EnvironmentSport Facilities: XIME has a gym room for both boys and girls inside the hostels. The gym rooms also serves as the common room for students to hang out in (In their respective hostels, of course) and watch TV (Yes, there is a TV in the gym room). The boys’ hostel campus has: A small ground to play cricket/football, a place to play badminton, a place to play tennis and two table-tennis tables (In the gym room). XIME’s sports club also conducts Chess competitions every year, in case anyone’s interested. The main campus has: A small basketball court, a place to play badminton and a snooker table.Main Campus Facilities: The library is compact, but contains several books on varied topics (Mostly Non-fiction books), management reports (These are good, XIME subscribes even to the Harvard Business Review), magazines and newspapers (Good ones like Business Line, The Economic Times, Mint etc). The Empressario Club of XIME runs an ‘E-Shop’ in the main campus, which is basically a stationery shop and also has photo-copiers and scanners (They also have a few stock of chips and biscuits). There is no canteen, as such, but there’s a small snack stall near the staff mess, which sells out almost everyday. And of course, there are also other facilities like a computer lab, auditoriums (A small, old one in the first floor and a giant, modern one in the second floor) and presentation rooms present in the main campus.Hostels: The hostels rooms, invariably, are three-sharing (One or two rooms may end up being two-sharing). There is also 24×7 hot water facility. Three cots, three beros and three study tables will be provided in the room. Rest of the items necessary are to be procured by the students. The rooms will be cleaned once in a week by the maids. If there are any complaints with the rooms (Electrical or physical), the same can be written down in the complaints register. Complaints are usually treated within a week by the warden.Food: There is a Mess Committee consisting of students, who decide the menu the students get to eat. The members and the menus they decide are generally representative of the batch. As in, if the batch has a lot of South Indian people, the mess committee will be a bit biased towards South Indian food (Vice Versa for North Indian food and all others). But in any case, the menu will almost always consist of Roti, Rice and Dal as the common items. Any changes in the menu or related mess complaints is to be communicated to the Mess Committee representatives and they’ll see to it. There are several hotels in and around Electronics City as well, ranging from roadside stalls, bakeries, cafes, pizza shops (You can order Pizza to the hostel from Domnios’, obviously) to hotels and restaurants, just in case you want to try something else. I’d personally suggest Momos and Katti Rolls for light and Biriyani for heavy food as specialities in Electronics City, if you’re eating outside.Clubs: XIME has 8 Clubs: Finitiative (Finance), XOps (Operations), MarkXIME (Marketing), HRUday (HR), XSeed (Social), Empressario (Entrepreneurship), the Sports Club and the Cultural Club. XIME also has its own Rotary wing. Clubs are run by seniors and juniors combined and Club activities occur throughout the year.B-Fests and Contests: The prominent part of any management education is participating in B-Fests and Contests across the country. There is no dearth of those in XIME. The Students’ Activity Co-Ordinator will float a Google form every time an event invitation is received. Students can then nominate themselves and their friends (In case of a team event). The final selection of participants will be done by the college and the same will be sent to participate on behalf of XIME. The registration fee, however steep, will be provided by the college. But the transportation cost has to be borne by the students. In case the overall trophy (If any) is won, it is usually given to the college as a sign of gratitude. Rightfully, XIME boasts the position of reigning champions or runner-up in a number of B-Fests and Contests across the country. A quick note: Participation in outside competitions, especially B-Fests, are highly recommended. Not only does it add value to your resume, but it drastically improves your capability to work in teams (A necessity in the corporate environment), creative-thinking, problem-solving and extroversion (As you’ll learn in your first trimester, one of the most prominent trait in a successful manager or leader). Besides, the judges and chief guests of such kind of events are usually big shots in the corporate machine. Networking with them translates to loads and loads of opportunities. Smart students get their Internships or even Final Placements through B-Fests and Contests.Elocution: The skill of communication is considered paramount in XIME. And rightfully so. Corporate success, as per several famous surveys, is almost always attributed to some sort of skill related to communication i.e. the power of influencing others. Throughout the year, several conferences, guest speeches and speech competitions will be held in XIME, so much so that many students accustomed to it. In fact, even while Deans and Directors of premier B-Schools across the country are expressly worried about the deteriorating articulation skills of their students, XIME has no qualms in that regard. XIME students win many oration-based competitions in B-Fests across the country (Notably, XIME has won the annual national level speech competition conducted by the Madras Management Association thrice in a row).Overall, life at XIME is good. And the environment is carefully crafted so as to allow students to receive the full length of Management Education. You will always hear a lot of complaints, even from the alumni and the seniors. But that’s what people do, don’t they? They complain. The most prominent complaint is about the lengthy classroom sessions (Each class is 70 minutes long), in addition to the compulsory guest speaker/event sessions. But as President sir himself put it once, “90% of your success depends on what do you do outside the class. But to understand what ought to be done outside, you will have to listen inside.”And I’ll let you in on a secret. Marks don’t matter a lot (Emphasis on a lot). They do matter to some extent. If anything, higher CGPAs in the first and second terms will provide you a big cushion for the rest of the terms. But marks do not translate to higher salary packs, better profiles or success in life. I’ve personally seen people with mediocre CGPAs get placed in above-average salaries in Day 0, while the TTP (Top Ten Percentile) struggle to get placed for a long time into the placement season. You get to be the lucky one if you’ve positively transformed yourself (As a person, as an employee, or an entrepreneur) during your time in the college.A final word.
