What’s a digital transformation that reshapes an HR function?
HR is the potential tool for enabling cultural transformation and hence build digital capabilities and mindset for businesses. In the digital era that is fast taking over the work places today, how we design the employee experience is critical since that translates to customer experience and business transformation… “what an employee has not experienced in the organization, he/she cannot curate for the customer or business.” What reshapes the HR function is their position as the curators of employee experience, being the change evangelists to drive the transformation and being a strategic partner to business. HR in its transactional / administrative role will cease to exist sooner or later in the “self-service” and “hyper personalized” mode that the work force today operates in. But the change is for the better, for HR to take on more strategic, more enabling role for the employees and the business at large. Employee Experience Curators: They say it is going to be a “gig economy” – multiple types of employees and employment patterns emerging with the evolving business ecosystem. Diversity emerges not only in terms of gender or race but in terms of employment types like free lancing, assignment-based, virtual working and so on. To accommodate and encourage this diverse population, HR professionals need to gear up and curate experiences through the employee lifecycle that engage their employees by motivating & connecting with them in a way that inspires the individual. The challenge that HR will have is to understand their employee personas and build the work place infrastructure, policies, processes and engagements tailored for individuals as opposed to the mass-made approach. Change Evangelists: Transformation is not a singular process anymore… it is a phenomenon that is continuous and evolving. HR will be at the bedrock of this transformation and drive it as evangelists of this change through the organization in an agile manner - as and when a change is called for, the wave must emerge through all the people practices of the organization to enable the organization to turn with the tide. Strategic Business Partners: Being business partners in the real sense – speaking the language of business, understanding what the customer expects and building people practices & culture to cater to that need is what is expected in the HR. It can no longer be limited to recruitment, training, transactional processing… it has to evolve to actively be involved in business decisions. People are the power houses of any organization and they make or mar a brand… partnering with people to align them to business goals is imperative.

I've got a written offer from my second choice company and a verbal offer from my first choice company. Should I tell the hiring
Simple, do not pit them against each other. If you prefer the company with the verbal offer. Just say that you need to get a written offer, have them email a pdf signed version, you print it out and then sign, scan and send the pdf version back, and you are done. Clean and simple. If you are dealing with an outside recruiter, it is in their best interest to get that done in less than 48 hours, and you can tell them another offer is on the table. If it is an inside HR or manager, it can be more difficult, You just don’t know their temperment. If you already have verbal offer, ask why there is a delay. If they say they need another day I would give them that day with the understanding that you need to move forward.Don’t elaborate too much. I was strung along for weeks at one point then the verbal offer was rescinded because they decided to close the job.In the end, it is your life and you need to do the best for you and your family. If they don’t understand that, then you will probably be miserable with them.

What are some good projects for students to improve programming skills?
I recommend you going through the following list of projects that surely will help you improve your programming skills. Numbers: Find PI to the Nth Digit - Enter a number and have the program generate PI up to that many decimal places. Keep a limit to how far the program will go. Find e to the Nth Digit - Just like the previous problem, but with e instead of PI. Enter a number and have the program generate e up to that many decimal places. Keep a limit to how far the program will go. Fibonacci Sequence - Enter a number and have the program generate the Fibonacci sequence to that number or to the Nth number. Prime Factorization - Have the user enter a number and find all Prime Factors (if there are any) and display them. Next Prime Number - Have the program find prime numbers until the user chooses to stop asking for the next one. Find Cost of Tile to Cover W x H Floor - Calculate the total cost of tile it would take to cover a floor plan of width and height, using a cost entered by the user. Mortgage Calculator - Calculate the monthly payments of a fixed term mortgage over given Nth terms at a given interest rate. Also figure out how long it will take the user to pay back the loan. For added complexity, add an option for users to select the compounding interval (Monthly, Weekly, Daily, Continually). Change Return Program - The user enters a cost and then the amount of money given. The program will figure out the change and the number of quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies needed for the change. Binary to Decimal and Back Converter - Develop a converter to convert a decimal number to binary or a binary number to its decimal equivalent. Calculator - A simple calculator to do basic operators. Make it a scientific calculator for added complexity. Unit Converter (temp, currency, volume, mass and more) - Converts various units between one another. The user enters the type of unit being entered, the type of unit they want to convert to and then the value. The program will then make the conversion. Alarm Clock - A simple clock where it plays a sound after X number of minutes/seconds or at a particular time. Distance Between Two Cities - Calculates the distance between two cities and allows the user to specify a unit of distance. This program may require finding coordinates for the cities like latitude and longitude. Credit Card Validator - Takes in a credit card number from a common credit card vendor (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discoverer) and validates it to make sure that it is a valid number (look into how credit cards use a checksum). Tax Calculator - Asks the user to enter a cost and either a country or state tax. It then returns the tax plus the total cost with tax. Factorial Finder - The Factorial of a positive integer, n, is defined as the product of the sequence n, n-1, n-2, ...1 and the factorial of zero, 0, is defined as being 1. Solve this using both loops and recursion. Complex Number Algebra - Show addition, multiplication, negation, and inversion of complex numbers in separate functions. (Subtraction and division operations can be made with pairs of these operations.) Print the results for each operation tested. Happy Numbers - A happy number is defined by the following process. Starting with any positive integer, replace the number by the sum of the squares of its digits, and repeat the process until the number equals 1 (where it will stay), or it loops endlessly in a cycle which does not include 1. Those numbers for which this process ends in 1 are happy numbers, while those that do not end in 1 are unhappy numbers. Display an example of your output here. Find first 8 happy numbers. Number Names - Show how to spell out a number in English. You can use a preexisting implementation or roll your own, but you should support inputs up to at least one million (or the maximum value of your language's default bounded integer type, if that's less). Optional: Support for inputs other than positive integers (like zero, negative integers, and floating-point numbers). Coin Flip Simulation - Write some code that simulates flipping a single coin however many times the user decides. The code should record the outcomes and count the number of tails and heads. Limit Calculator - Ask the user to enter f(x) and the limit value, then return the value of the limit statement Optional: Make the calculator capable of supporting infinite limits. Fast Exponentiation - Ask the user to enter 2 integers a and b and output a^b (i.e. pow(a,b)) in O(lg n) time complexity. Classic Algorithms: Collatz Conjecture - Start with a number n %3E 1. Find the number of steps it takes to signNow one using the following process: If n is even, divide it by 2. If n is odd, multiply it by 3 and add 1. Sorting - Implement two types of sorting algorithms: Merge sort and bubble sort. Closest pair problem - The closest pair of points problem or closest pair problem is a problem of computational geometry: given n points in metric space, find a pair of points with the smallest distance between them. Sieve of Eratosthenes - The sieve of Eratosthenes is one of the most efficient ways to find all of the smaller primes (below 10 million or so). Graph Graph from links - Create a program that will create a graph or network from a series of links. Eulerian Path - Create a program which will take as an input a graph and output either a Eulerian path or a Eulerian cycle, or state that it is not possible. A Eulerian Path starts at one node and traverses every edge of a graph through every node and finishes at another node. A Eulerian cycle is a eulerian Path that starts and finishes at the same node. Connected Graph - Create a program which takes a graph as an input and outputs whether every node is connected or not. Dijkstra’s Algorithm - Create a program that finds the shortest path through a graph using its edges. Minimum Spanning Tree - Create a program which takes a connected, undirected graph with weights and outputs the minimum spanning tree of the graph i.e., a subgraph that is a tree, contains all the vertices, and the sum of its weights is the least possible. Data Structures Inverted index - An Inverted Index [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverted_index ] is a data structure used to create full text search. Given a set of text files, implement a program to create an inverted index. Also create a user interface to do a search using that inverted index which returns a list of files that contain the query term / terms. The search index can be in memory. Text Fizz Buzz - Write a program that prints the numbers from 1 to 100. But for multiples of three print “Fizz” instead of the number and for the multiples of five print “Buzz”. For numbers which are multiples of both three and five print “FizzBuzz”. Reverse a String - Enter a string and the program will reverse it and print it out. Pig Latin - Pig Latin is a game of alterations played on the English language game. To create the Pig Latin form of an English word the initial consonant sound is transposed to the end of the word and an ay is affixed (Ex.: "banana" would yield anana-bay). Read Wikipedia for more information on rules. Count Vowels - Enter a string and the program counts the number of vowels in the text. For added complexity have it report a sum of each vowel found. Check if Palindrome - Checks if the string entered by the user is a palindrome. That is that it reads the same forwards as backwards like “racecar” Count Words in a String - Counts the number of individual words in a string. For added complexity read these strings in from a text file and generate a summary. Text Editor - Notepad style application that can open, edit, and save text documents. Optional: Add syntax highlighting and other features. RSS Feed Creator - Given a link to RSS/Atom Feed, get all posts and display them. Quote Tracker (market symbols etc) - A program which can go out and check the current value of stocks for a list of symbols entered by the user. The user can set how often the stocks are checked. For CLI, show whether the stock has moved up or down. Optional: If GUI, the program can show green up and red down arrows to show which direction the stock value has moved. Guestbook / Journal - A simple application that allows people to add comments or write journal entries. It can allow comments or not and timestamps for all entries. Could also be made into a shout box. Optional: Deploy it on Google App Engine or Heroku or any other PaaS (if possible, of course). Vigenere / Vernam / Ceasar Ciphers - Functions for encrypting and decrypting data messages. Then send them to a friend. Regex Query Tool - A tool that allows the user to enter a text string and then in a separate control enter a regex pattern. Networking FTP Program - A file transfer program which can transfer files back and forth from a remote web sever. Bandwidth Monitor - A small utility program that tracks how much data you have uploaded and downloaded from the net during the course of your current online session. See if you can find out what periods of the day you use more and less and generate a report or graph that shows it. Port Scanner - Enter an IP address and a port range where the program will then attempt to find open ports on the given computer by connecting to each of them. On any successful connections mark the port as open. Mail Checker (POP3 / IMAP) - The user enters various account information include web server and IP, protocol type (POP3 or IMAP) and the application will check for email at a given interval. Country from IP Lookup - Enter an IP address and find the country that IP is registered in. Optional: Find the Ip automatically. Whois Search Tool - Enter an IP or host address and have it look it up through whois and return the results to you. Site Checker with Time Scheduling - An application that attempts to connect to a website or server every so many minutes or a given time and check if it is up. If it is down, it will notify you by email or by posting a notice on screen. Classes Product Inventory Project - Create an application which manages an inventory of products. Create a product class which has a price, id, and quantity on hand. Then create an inventory class which keeps track of various products and can sum up the inventory value. Airline / Hotel Reservation System - Create a reservation system which books airline seats or hotel rooms. It charges various rates for particular sections of the plane or hotel. Example, first class is going to cost more than coach. Hotel rooms have penthouse suites which cost more. Keep track of when rooms will be available and can be scheduled. Company Manager - Create an hierarchy of classes - abstract class Employee and subclasses HourlyEmployee, SalariedEmployee, Manager and Executive. Every one's pay is calculated differently, research a bit about it. After you've established an employee hierarchy, create a Company class that allows you to manage the employees. You should be able to hire, fire and raise employees. Bank Account Manager - Create a class called Account which will be an abstract class for three other classes called CheckingAccount, SavingsAccount and BusinessAccount. Manage credits and debits from these accounts through an ATM style program. Patient / Doctor Scheduler - Create a patient class and a doctor class. Have a doctor that can handle multiple patients and setup a scheduling program where a doctor can only handle 16 patients during an 8 hr work day. Recipe Creator and Manager - Create a recipe class with ingredients and a put them in a recipe manager program that organizes them into categories like deserts, main courses or by ingredients like chicken, beef, soups, pies etc. Image Gallery - Create an image abstract class and then a class that inherits from it for each image type. Put them in a program which displays them in a gallery style format for viewing. Shape Area and Perimeter Classes - Create an abstract class called Shape and then inherit from it other shapes like diamond, rectangle, circle, triangle etc. Then have each class override the area and perimeter functionality to handle each shape type. Flower Shop Ordering To Go - Create a flower shop application which deals in flower objects and use those flower objects in a bouquet object which can then be sold. Keep track of the number of objects and when you may need to order more. Family Tree Creator - Create a class called Person which will have a name, when they were born and when (and if) they died. Allow the user to create these Person classes and put them into a family tree structure. Print out the tree to the screen. Threading Create A Progress Bar for Downloads - Create a progress bar for applications that can keep track of a download in progress. The progress bar will be on a separate thread and will communicate with the main thread using delegates. Bulk Thumbnail Creator - Picture processing can take a bit of time for some transformations. Especially if the image is large. Create an image program which can take hundreds of images and converts them to a specified size in the background thread while you do other things. For added complexity, have one thread handling re-sizing, have another bulk renaming of thumbnails etc. Web Page Scraper - Create an application which connects to a site and pulls out all links, or images, and saves them to a list. Optional: Organize the indexed content and don’t allow duplicates. Have it put the results into an easily searchable index file. Turtle Graphics - This is a common project where you create a floor of 20 x 20 squares. Using various commands you tell a turtle to draw a line on the floor. You have move forward, left or right, lift or drop pen etc. Do a search online for "Turtle Graphics" for more information. Optional: Allow the program to read in the list of commands from a file. GIF Creator A program that puts together multiple images (PNGs, JPGs, TIFFs) to make a smooth GIF that can be exported. Optional: Make the program convert small video files to GIFs as well. Security Caesar cipher - Implement a Caesar cipher, both encoding and decoding. The key is an integer from 1 to 25. This cipher rotates the letters of the alphabet (A to Z). The encoding replaces each letter with the 1st to 25th next letter in the alphabet (wrapping Z to A). So key 2 encrypts "HI" to "JK", but key 20 encrypts "HI" to "BC". This simple "monoalphabetic substitution cipher" provides almost no security, because an attacker who has the encoded message can either use frequency analysis to guess the key, or just try all 25 keys. Who gave integrated PhD physics interview this year and how did it go?
It’s gonna be a detailed description of my IPhD interview. TLDR version is given in next two lines.I gave IPhd physics interview at TIFR, Mumbai this year in 2018. How did it go? Good? Bad? So-so? I have no idea!! But I can tell one thing that I enjoyed it!!I appeared for TIFR GS 2018 on 10th December, 2017. Results came out on 13th-14th Feb I guess. 70 students were selected for IPhD interviews including myself. ICTS selects roughly the top half of the TIFR selections for their interviews. I got 66/135. ICTS selected 33 IPhD students for further written test. I was one of them.My TIFR, Mumbai interview was on 20th March, 2018. I signNowed there at 8:45 am. We were segregated in 5 batches as 5 interview panels were there. After this the formalities were done and all we had to do was wait for our turn. My turn came after lunch. At around 1:50 pm, I along with one more student were taken to a different block where our panel was taking interviews. At 2 pm, I was called in.There were four professors in my panel. They were from different departments, i.e., DTP, DHEP, DCMPMS, DAA. Let’s call them S, B, A and P.A: First of all, you need to sign on the preference list. If you want to change your preferences, you can do that now.I was given the form that I filled up for GS.Me: I would like to change my preferences. I want to put DAA above DHEP.So my final preference list was DTP, DAA, DHEP, DCMPMS, DNAP and NCRA.B: So your first preference is DTP. Why is that?I told them about my experiences in school and during BTech regarding astronomy and astrophysics and how that led to my interest in theoretical physics. The first astrophysics book I read was “The Physical Universe by Frank Shu”. I then got interested in general relativity, cosmology and black holes.A: You see, these are the fields in which you can do work in both DTP and DAA.Me: Sir that’s why I put them as my first two choices.B: What are your favourite subjects?Me: Classical mechanics and statistical mechanics.First QuestionS: When we calculate the orbital velocity of stars in a galaxy and plot it against distance from center of the galaxy, it first increases, signNowes a maxima and then decreases again. But when the actual velocities were observed, it kept on increasing and never signNowed a maxima!! Why?I was a bit confused. I had no idea why the calculation and observation are deviating so drastically. I didn’t know what to say. P came to me and showed me an image from a pdf. It was the graph that S was talking about. It looked like this:P: Ok we know you can’t tell the reason. But can you derive the expression for the expected result? Why were they expecting the velocity to decrease as the distance increases?I had no idea where to start from. So I hopelessly went for Kepler’s third law.S: Ok! What now?I tried to do something with conservation of angular momentum.P: You should not go in this direction. You won’t signNow anywhere!I started doing something with the velocities and tried to find a relation with r. At one point, there was a total miscommunication between me and them. I had ṙ everywhere in my equations.P: Now it doesn’t make any sense!A: What is the radial velocity in a circular motion?I was shocked to hear this question! Where is this coming from? I started looking at my equations.A: What is the change in radius in a circular motion?Me: It doesn’t change!A: So what would be the radial velocity?Me: Zero!!A: Then why are you using ṙ everywhere?Me: But ṙ will be there. It is an elliptical galaxy!S: We are talking about circular galaxy! Then I realised my mistakes. Changed the equations and somehow signNowed at this result:So in this question, I was unable to solve it by myself and was given hints at almost every step.Second QuestionA: If I observe a star, then I observe a star cooler than that. What will be the difference in their spectrum?I was pretty much shaken from the first question and couldn’t see that he was asking about black body spectrum. I thought it had something to do with diffraction or polarisation and since my optics isn’t strong at all, I said that I don’t know about the spectrum.A: Let me rephrase the question. If I observe a blue star at temperature T and then I observe a red star at temperature T/2. What will be the difference in their spectrum?I still had no idea what spectrum he was talking about but I can’t say a direct no again. I had to try something.Me: Sir it doesn’t matter what temperature the star is at, it will emit all the frequencies!A: Yes of course a blackbody emits all the frequencies! That’s where I got the hint of blackbody. I drew the blackbody spectrum. But instead of intensity vs wavelength, I chose intensity vs frequency. Doesn’t make much of a difference. All I had to do was adjust the graph accordingly. I made the plots for both blue and red star but I made a mistake that I intersected both of them. I made the peak shift correctly but made this mistake.A: There is an intersection. How will you account for that? Can you find the ratio of their energies?I used Stefan’s law and found the ratio of energies of blue to red star as 16:1.A: Ok since you have got 16:1, can you now make an argument about why this intersection should not be there?Me: Yes sir. Since the energy of red star is always 1/16 of that of blue star, their intensities can never match at any frequency.Third QuestionB: Shall we now ask from quantum mechanics? Do you know quantum?Me: Not much. Just a little bit!B (smiling): Ok now he is getting cautious!Me: No I am not getting cautious. Even in the beginning I said classical and statistical mechanics. I never said quantum mechanics in the first place!Everybody started laughing.B: But still we will ask you a simple question from quantum.Me: Ok!P: In an experiment, a particle is created. Its mass is measured to be m with an error of 20 times the mass of an electron. What is the life time of that particle?Me: By life time you mean the time for which we can detect the particle?P: Yeah pretty much close! Then I simply applied the uncertainty principle and got the result.P: Yes this is the expression I was looking for!Fourth QuestionS: Ok I have not prepared a question from statistical mechanics. Let me make one and till then, you do this one.I was happy to see this question. It was a really simple one!! I found the eigenvalues, eigenvectors, diagonalised the matrix and found its exponentiation.Fifth QuestionS: In a harmonic oscillator, there are many energy levels. It is kept at temperature T. What is the average energy of the system? It was a pretty straight forward question. I wrote these three relations:S: You see it is not much difficult to find the summations. At least find one!I solved the series for z and found the expression for partition function.S: Ok that’s fine. And my interview was over. I came out and saw the time. It was 3:15 pm. My interview went for 1 hr 15 mins! I was really happy to go through this experience. I really enjoyed it all. And then one day I got this:I got my first choice!! I had expected at most DAA which was my second choice. Never thought that I would get DTP. Hope my experience helps someone!Edit: People are asking me about my ICTS interview and other institutions that I applied to. I chose not to go to ICTS, Bangalore. I skipped that interview. I appeared for TIFR GS and IITJAM this year. I did not give any other interviews. I am glad that my TIFR experience is being helpful. Interviews at TIFR are different for everybody. What happened with me will most probably not happen with anyone else. I personally feel that they went a bit easy on me after the first question. Kind of a stress test? I don’t know. I don’t even know what they were expecting from me! Thank you all!

How do I be a Google search engine evaluator?
Hey there, I am an active Search Engine Evaluator with Leapforce and I know where you are coming from. Read on to find out how you can be one.Search Engine Evaluator – Initial Checklists :-Before you apply for a position to be a Search Engine Evaluator, make sure that you satisfy the following conditions –Be a highly active user of Google’s Search Engine and other products.Have a Gmail account with web history turned on.Use Google Play at least once per week.Use Google+ more than once a month.WHERE TO APPLY?Once the above checklists are met, you can apply to the following companies -RATERLABS (Only for Americans)LEAPFORCEAPPENLIONBRIDGESearch Engine Evaluator – Study Materials and Study Period : –Once you have applied for a position to be a Search Engine Evaluator, and your application has been approved by them, you will be sent a study material which will be your Bible for the exam and during your entire tenure as a Search Engine Evaluator. The study material is a 147 page PDF file which is all that you need to crack this exam. The concepts discussed here may be a bit intimidating to people who aren’t so familiar with Google Searches and doesn’t have a little bit of knowledge of internet, but other than that it is nothing technical that requires mathematical or programming skills.Once you receive the study material, you will have seven days to study it, and your exam will take place after a week over the next seven days. Hence the qualification process can take about fourteen days. The best part is that results are instantaneously known except for the last part of the exam.Remember, exams are scheduled according to Pacific Standard Time (PST). So those of you who aren’t US citizens, be careful to plan according to PST.Exam Duration :-You have seven days to finish the exam. You don’t have to sit down and finish the exam at one go though. Moreover, there are three components of exam which we will discuss in depth later.Components of Search Engine Evaluator Exam : –There are three components of it –A theoretical component.Practical component taken in desktop or laptop.Practical component that requires a smartphone. The theoretical component of the exam consists of questions which are based on the study material provided by Leapforce. Many people find it easy to pass the first part while some can’t even go through the first part. For some, it is the easiest part of the exam, while others find it extremely hard to understand the concepts discussed in the guidelines, let alone appear for the exams.Once you have cracked the first part of the exam, you will have to pass the practical component of the exam. The first part of the practical component of the exam is the application of the concepts and theories discussed in the first part of the study material. The third part of the exam is a practical component that requires one to have a smartphone with Android or iOS. Windows phones aren’t supported. Now this may sound a bit intimidating to you, but trust me it is not. The instructions that you will receive are awesome and makes appearing for exam a breeze. But make no mistake in assuming that the exam itself is easy. It ain’t!How to prepare for the exam :-Simple ! Work your butt off for a week ! That’s it.Some people complain that Leapforce doesn’t pay one during study or exam preparation. Are you serious bro? Hell, what about the three years that you spent in a college that did’t or couldn’t guarantee a job after you’re done with it? What about the loan that you took to get a degree that has no relevance to the reality of life? You don’t need student loan to get study materials here. It’s for free unlike your college degree. You might wanna study each day for at least two hours so that you can refresh your concepts right before your exam. Once your exam starts, you can always refer back to the PDF material that you get from them.Even during the first part of the exam, you can refer back to the PDF guidelines. The best part is, it is an open book exam.Is the exam tough?Absolutely ! Hey I failed on my first attempt. The last part of the exam got me. I thought I had it, but turned out I couldn’t make it on my first attempt. If you don’t study the study material i.e. the 147 page PDF guidelines, you are sure to fail. 100% guaranteed. That’s the reason why Leapforce says at the very beginning that this is a tough exam. It ain’t easy. And trust me it isn’t.However, if you study it thoroughly and religiously for at least a week, nothing can stop you from cracking this exam. But the reality is, some people are’t cut for this job. No matter how many times they try, they can’t just make it. And that’s the reality of this exam. What happens if you fail on your first attempt? You may be given a one time chance to retake the exam.Good Luck with your exam. I am excited to hear back from you. If you have any questions, please comment below.P.S. Don’t ask me answers for questions of any part of the exam. I won’t give that out. That’s called cheating and cheating only cheats you.Go be a Search Engine Evaluator today. Sign up below and start earning .Leapforceathome.comRECENT DEVELOPMETS ( Jan 2018):Raterlabs has been created out of Leapforce to employ US search evaluators of Leapforce and Lionbridge. That’s why its website looks exactly like Leapforce. If you are an American and trying to apply to Raterlabs, read this -Announcement for US candidatesThe most recent news is the acquisition of Leapforce by Appen, which was a shocker to me. But we are still be managed by Leapforce and still paid the same amount as before - $7/hr or $14/hr depending on one’s location. If you want to read about the acquisition, read it here -Appen has acquired Leapforce !If you want to know how I made almost 79,000 Rs through Search Engine Evaluation , you should read this post till the end -$,1000 to $20,000 - Biggest regret of my life !

How do I automate employee onboarding?
Document the current process as it is. Include everything from the moment you’re ready to make an offer. Is there an offer letter template? Who sends it? Where is the signed letter saved and who needs to know it’s been accepted? What information is needed from the employee (I9, Benefits, Direct Deposit, NDA, etc.) What forms will be needed? What will the employee need on their first day and their first week (Security badge, PC, phone, desk, cube, etc.)? Who needs to supply it?Who will be training them and what is the training process? How will you track their progress? There’s likely a lot more you’ll need to document, but that gives you a general idea of what questions to ask. Once you have that all sorted out, run it by a few people who are part of the process and validate it.Once it’s all validated, you’re ready to automate. Find a workflow management system that fits your needs and budget. These systems allow you to create workflows that include all the tasks that need to be performed and assign them to the people who need to perform them.Processes can run in parallel or sequentially. For instance, someone may be setting up their security badge at the same time someone else is requisitioning a chair. You’ll be able to set up reminders and alerts to make sure that everyone is doing what they’re supposed to be doing. As tasks are completed, they are checked off as completed by the task owner and the process moves to the next step.Meanwhile, the entire process is visible to all stakeholders so there is never a question about who needs to do what next. Also, the time from beginning to end can be tracked to find bottlenecks in the process. Before launching the automated process it, get feedback from all stakeholders, which could include HR, Payroll, Purchasing, Finance, Operations, IT, Security, etc. If they have a part to play they need to provide feedback. There may be information they need that’s not already on any forms you’ve created.I put together a guide that walks you through the process of automating employee onboarding that has a lot more detail than I can include in this response.
