Frequently asked questions
How do you make a document that has an electronic signature?
How do you make this information that was not in a digital format a computer-readable document for the user? "
"So the question is not only how can you get to an individual from an individual, but how can you get to an individual with a group of individuals. How do you get from one location and say let's go to this location and say let's go to that location. How do you get from, you know, some of the more traditional forms of information that you are used to seeing in a document or other forms. The ability to do that in a digital medium has been a huge challenge. I think we've done it, but there's some work that we have to do on the security side of that. And of course, there's the question of how do you protect it from being read by people that you're not intending to be able to actually read it? "
When asked to describe what he means by a "user-centric" approach to security, Bensley responds that "you're still in a situation where you are still talking about a lot of the security that is done by individuals, but we've done a very good job of making it a user-centric process. You're not going to be able to create a document or something on your own that you can give to an individual. You can't just open and copy over and then give it to somebody else. You still have to do the work of the document being created in the first place and the work of the document being delivered in a secure manner."
What to use to esign a documetn?
[11:17] <hmm9002> i think my doc is the right way to go [11:17] <@shecalledmepaul_> i want to learn how to make a doc that uses some python [11:17] <@shecalledmepaul_> its the easiest way [11:17] <hmm9002> and i want someone to help me [11:17] <@shecalledmepaul_> and i know someone that will [11:17] <@shecalledmepaul_> he just needs my help to [11:17] <_Err404> you are not in the doc [11:18] <_Err404> you do not have the required permission [11:18] <hmm9002> ok fine [11:18] <jason_steakums> I've been using Python for 10 years, and I use it for all of the client code, so I have the permissions, but it doesn't have the ability to generate documetns. And I'm willing to pay for that to be an option. [11:18] <jason_steakums> And I am the only one who needs it. [11:19] <hmm9002> ok [11:20] <@emmaw> what kind of python does he use? [11:20] <fastantic4> python , but I've been working with 3 [11:20] <jason_steakums> I've tried it all, but the code base is a disaster, to put it mildly [11:20] <centralpole> is he working on the new version? [11:20] <@emmaw> i don't think he wants to use a new version of c/c++ [11:20] <centralpole> because i think the new codebase does look really good [11:20] <@emmaw> and he's very close [11:20] <@emmaw> to being done [11:21] <fastantic4> it is the same code base as before, it's just been refactored [11:21] <centralpole> hmm i'll check that out [11:21] <hmm9002> ok [11:21] <fastantic4> yeah. but it's a good idea to have it done [11:21] <
Which of the following is included in the eSign act?
)
"Any eSign that is in the format and has the following characteristics will be considered a "eSign" and will be signed in the eSign act."
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Chris Gorsek (D-Canton) is trying to make it clear that this bill is meant to regulate and prevent people from selling their votes. He said,
"In today's digital environment, it's not a matter of if, it's when people are going to vote online. This bill will protect the right of Michigan citizens to have integrity in a digital election process."
The idea of a voter-verified paper trail is a great idea. I have a few suggestions, though:
This would not be a replacement for a paper trail.
If you're a voter and you want to register to vote online in Michigan, you'll need to fill out an application (and pay fees!) just like other voters. If this bill passes, that application cannot be mailed or emailed to the voter, and you can't have the voter sign the application. Instead, it needs to be hand-delivered to the clerk of the court. If you want to cast an absentee ballot, you'll need to send this application and a signed affidavit to the clerk of the court as well. This creates another level of bureaucracy. What's the benefit of an online voter registration system that is only online? I'd rather have the old system: You fill out an application, you mail in the application, you receive your voter card or the absentee ballot, and you're done. You don't need to be a bureaucrat to receive your ballot.
I'd rather have th...
