Hi there, Ihave worked for IBM before and presently i’m working for KPIT . I joined KPIT because I got a chance to work in automotive electronics field,otherwise I wouldn't have left IBM.Depending on the role offered to you and considering your passion and interests make a choice.Here’s are my opinions from what I observed at both organizations.Induction ProgramGenerally it’s 2 days long,both at KPIT and IBM.In IBM the process is smooth the on-boarding team ensures that everything is on time and going as per the schedule. It begins with a signature campaign where you have sign on PF forms,gratuity forms etc.Everything goes according to the plans and in the course of two days the new joiners will have opportunity to connect with the heads of various verticals and also people from R&D department.During the entire process the on-boarding team is very cooperative,patient and calm, ensures that all your questions are cleared be it regarding training or simple issues like email id login issues or ID card problems. New joiners will get their managers contact details, by the end of first day of induction and they’ll get instructions on where and how and where to collect their laptops(depends on manager and project requirements),our batch got Macbooks because there was no workstations. After that the trainees report to the concerned managers and they’ll give a presentation about training,how to login and update bank and other details on company portal,they’ll show the training room etc etc . This goes for a day and they’ll wind up. Ideally the new trainees are set and the training starts from the fourth day.In KPIT, there’s no one to tell you where the induction program is going on and you’ve to somehow explore places with the security and find out. Then once you find it out eventually you’ll be in doubt because no one from on boarding team will be present there and you’ll be confused whether it’s the right place. There’s a schedule for namesake to be displayed on PPT ,in simple the whole process is unplanned. Literally the people who will give session will be fighting to end the previous session and begin their session. Before beginning the pre-lunch session,the speaker tells the new joiners to wait and collect lunch coupons,but the coupons will be handed out only the person who gives the finishes his lunch and gives it when the lunch break is almost over. This extends the program for another one hour or two hours. After the lunch break everyone is in a hurry and skip majority of the slides and say it’ll be told to you later by someone. After the presentation sessions are over,they’ll ask the new joiners not to leave until a member from on-boarding team comes and tells.No paper work will be done and it’ll be done on day 2 in a chaotic manner,where you’ll signing and simultaneously doing bank stuff and listening to other things. You’ll never get your manager details,your email or Access. You’ll get your ID cards but you don’t have access ,you have to yourself request for access card and constantly ask when will you get it. You’ll just get an overview of what modules are there as part of training. You have get everything done by yourself. The email ids will not be available and trainer gets angry and asks the trainees to get it done by themselves.TrainingAt IBM the trainers were very chilled out and very friendly, they gave equal importance to everyone and double checked that everyone understood the concept and no one was left out. This was achieved because they created an environment where you could consider them as your friend/mentor and tell them your concerns and get it resolved/addressed. The evaluation process is transparent and feedback is completely private ,only your trainer lets you know about it and the trainer suggests that you need to improve. If the assessment goes bad for anyone,the trainer will be by their side and speak in a calm and polite manner and makes them understand and they’ll also give a opportunity to learn the entire model again with a new batch and this time they’ll majorly focus on the candidate who didn’t clear and ensure that the candidate understands the concepts and clears the module. The specialty of the trainers is that even though they have masters,PhD or years of experience they never degrade the trainees, they ask the trainee to call them by their names (to build a good rapport and understand people)and not to address them as sir/madam and also it is reflected in the process of evaluation and keeping the results confidential. Even if the trainees have to take the training once again ,only the trainer and the manager knows and it won’t be told to anyone else and even the trainer asks the trainee not to let anyone else know about it(unless the trainee tells) as it would make the trainee feel sad. The trainer always keeps a low profile and maintains that he doesn't know anything,even when he’s the master of his domain and has years of experience.This is done to ensure that the trainees can connect and ask questions and make the learning process smooth.This ensures that the trainees always remember the trainers and look up to them and remember them for many many years to come.In KPIT ,the training is digital for majority of the modules and most of the times trainers connect digitally online and only maybe for one module the training will given by trainer non digitally. The trainer boasts about his/her experience and the things they’ve worked on and the degrees they have. Also some trainers tell us about their salary and they make us feel as if they if they are funding our training. Trainees get a feeling that they're back to school again.They try their best to make trainees feel that they are illiterates. They ask trainees not to call them as Sir/Madam but when we address them by their name the frustration is clearly visible on their face and their speech tone. The assessments are online for which the evaluations are fair but if its done by the trainers manually then its totally dependent on luck on whether you pass or fail. Some trainers have the audacity to clear a completely copied work and fail a project work which includes new ideas and done on his own after putting a lot of hard work and efforts. The trainers also defend the copied works and arrogantly asks the trainees to focus on improving their work and not on evaluations. The trainers are always frustrated when clearing doubts and never give proper feedback. The results are told in front of everyone by the batch owners or admin,who don't have any knowledge on the modules but scolds like they have done the hard work and threatens the trainees if anyone fails there would serious actions sometimes even fired. But the decision is taken by the program managers that trainees should be fired or should stay in spite of failure . There are situations where trainees got project allocation and got fired because they failed to clear a module which wasn't even required for projects . The trainees would be counting the number of days remaining and would pray to finish the training successfully soon. They pray that they would never see them again.Work ,Gym ,CafeteriaWhile IBM is purely IT software, the work life depends on the projects and team lead. If you had the laptop you could take a work from home option for one day in every week. Again it depends on TL and manager. Logins and log outs aren't taken into consideration,they trust their employees will do the required work and after finishing they'll leave. So no trouble of shortage in clock hours. GYM can be accessed anytime when it's open there's no restriction on going to gym during working hours provided you inform your manager about your schedule or you can visit the gym before login or after logout provided the GYM is open. The pantry is open throughout the day and you can get sandwiches,juice,pasta at reasonable rates. If not there is a cafeteria outside where there is a lot more options to try. Rate is reasonable at both places.In KPIT there's automotive and IT . I don't know about IT but in automotive the majority of managers and teams are helpful and good , only training is a horrible experience. It depends on the teams,managers and team leads . Here new joiners don't get laptops unless they've two or more years of experience so there's no work from home options. Logins and log outs are considered and evryone should clock 8.5hrs a day but on some days it goes above 10hrs and there are people who slept in office for 2 or 3 days continuously and even worked on weekends. GYM is only accessible on weekends and holidays. Cafeteria is not bad but only open during office hours. Outside cafeteria is very expensive and food quality is bad.Salary hike and bondIBM generally gives 40 to 50% hike and there is no bond.KPIT gives single digit salary hikes and there is two year bond for new joiners be it freshers or experienced.
