today we're discussing one of the most important things in cryptocurrency or the blockchain industry security now we're going to be sharing with you three key things you want to understand before investing really important things just frameworks you can take in before purchasing on any platform no matter what it is and really how to understand what is security in this crazy world of cryptography where there really is no one that's holding your hand through this no kind of middleman for example if you send funds through paypal or venmo or cash app you can have it there's a thing called ftic security okay same with bank account like if you use your debit card somewhere or credit card you can potentially get those funds back this is not the case in cryptocurrency now this can be used to your advantage or it can be a disadvantage it just depends on how responsible you personally are depends on the actual steps you take to mitigate risk and to put actual measures in place to have best practices and best security so let's get right into it first one thing you have to understand when you're using your computer or especially mobile devices is something called a keystroke logger so let's say in the past you've received some sort of scammy email or scammy text message and you've actually clicked on a link okay when this happens they can put something in called a keystroke logger so anything you're typing in on your keyboard is a data input you have to understand what data inputs are versus data outputs so anything on like let's say you're on a website and you're typing in a form box or you're text texting someone well that keyboard you're using can if it has a keystroke logger in it every data input will be tracked and sent to another computer so this is just one of the things that's very important to understand and a great way to mitigate these things is using malwarebytes and using a lot of other security measures all the security things that i propose that you use you can check them all out most of them have a free trial will be linked down below none of them are affiliate links or anything it's purely just tools that you can use so take this as raw data don't take it as you know uh one size fits all black and white thinking take it as okay let me test malwarebytes out let me test their free trial out i personally like malwarebytes you know especially if um you're doing something where you just want to scan your computer for any viruses it has like keystroke loggers which is one of the most important things people don't understand like people can people have gone years with someone literally tracking everything they type on their computer which is insane so all their passwords even though when you type in your password it shows up as dots like encrypted so like you type f you type a you type h it shows up as three dots well for for the person with the keystroke logger in they see fha so you a lot of people don't understand this just first of all but that's why things like malwarebytes and other things will have linked down below in the description are very very key for this so that's kind of number one is understanding that your if your computer has malware malware is kind of a blanket statement on many different things keystroke loggers are just one there's tons of different ways people can see this there's a similar things where people can see exactly what you're doing on your screen they can see like just like let's say you've done a screen recording before well they basically have a screen recording of everything you're doing on your computer so typically this is why um the the most platforms when typing in a password it has the dots it has encrypted because if someone has a screen recording there but they don't have the keystroke logger well they can see the dots but they can't see what those dots represent okay and this is important for other things because that's that's really step number one so scanning your computer for malwarebytes is number one before investing this this is so important because if you're typing in passwords if you're uh you know creating an account and you're typing back in your public key or your mnemonic so to understand what mnemonic and private key essentially is in blockchain you have your private keys that's why people say you know not your keys not your coins because when you have your private keys it's your own custody so think about this in the commodities world you know i recommend if you're going to invest in commodities invest in physical bullion that you can hold yourself you don't want to have to trust some middleman that says like holding digital versions of gold or copper or silver or palladium whatever you want to invest in i personally like silver but if if you're going to hold that and someone else has it well look just look at history at any time in history we've had this situation where when there's a middleman and you have to trust that middleman the trust is betrayed and throughout it's at least at some point so this is why you want to self-custody these things this is why it's not your keys not your coins so you want to hold your own private keys typically this is in the form of a mnemonic okay so on demonic is let's say you go on you start a new metamask account you start a new i don't know coinbase account whatever if you're a complete beginner coinbase might be your on-ramp but gemini cracking all these different things these mo like gemini and kraken obviously are exchanges but let's say you do like an exodus a mobile wallet before when you're signing up for the wallets it's it's not like you know when you sign up for i don't know wells fargo bank account or a gmail address where you have a username and password your username and password is your private key which is your mnemonic so this is a derivative of your private key so i don't want to get into too much detail but essentially the way crypto cryptography works is through hash functions so you have your private key address which holds the actual coins and then your public key which publicly available to anyone using the blockchain you can go on that's the whole point of the blockchain is it's a publicly distributed ledger where you can see every single transaction that's been made since the beginning of bitcoin since the beginning of whatever blockchain you're using so so you can see you know someone's one dollar transaction you can see the first transaction ever for the pizza you know the very very first kind of historical transaction you can see that on the blockchain you can go back but you can't see your and i name so let's say it was me and you making this this exchange you can't see our names rather you can see our public keys and i know some of you that are more advanced may be going okay come on come on this beginner stuff but the point here is if you're new to these things and you're interested in security you need to understand at least how this works so i hope you understand what hash functions are if you don't just look at hash functions i'm not going to give you a middle school math lesson but essentially hash functions it's a derivative so you have your private key a derivative of that a hashed version you can think of it as is your public key that public key you can put in your twitter bio you can put in your instagram whatever you want to do with it and anyone can send that through your public key a better way of doing this is a little aside is a human readable domain so there's a project called fio which we've done a review on in the past this is that is essentially another derivative of this public key so instead of uh you know copying and pasting this public key and having someone send you crypto to this address where if they get one letter wrong it's lost it's literally lost so they sent it to some other uh private address because that public address is not really the one that's receiving it remember this public address is a hashed version of the private address okay so this is why i'm saying not your keys not to crypto because if you don't control the private address which the public address is a hashed function of then you don't control it all and this human readable domain is just kind of like a third layer to this okay so the point here is i just want to explain this people understood you understand the first step which is scanning your computer from malware understanding that this is so so important because you have things like you have things like uh keystroke loggers that are very very issues you also have bugs and many other things that i don't need to get into details about and then you move into the second step where it's not your keys not your coins so when you're essentially creating a new cryptocurrency account creating a new wallet um you want to make sure you're writing this mnemonic down on paper okay on paper this mnemonic doesn't matter if you have zero dollars in this account this is just a best practice it's kind of like this idea of scaling something up so you want to treat it like let's say you have a farm you don't want to go up to uh you know each animal and give it a name because at some point when you have a thousand animals you can't give each animal a name and care about each animal like individually yes you can obviously have compassion for these things but think about it as scaling this up so let's say you start out with ten dollars in cryptocurrency you wanna treat that ten dollars just in your mind like it's a million dollars okay that way you have best practices and you have these habits and systems in place that's how people scale things up in the real world that's how you know if you have one employee you want to treat it like you have 10 employees you want to put the systems in place for that one thing like you have 10x or 100x that thing so that's the way like the best farmers in the world do this look at joel salatin and you can apply this to different industries so the point here is is you want to have these best practices in place even if it's not even if it's not a large amount of money even if you're you're willing to risk it but why would you why would you have a situation where you're gonna risk this hundred dollars rather just put systems in place and have the security in place to do this so again not your keys not your crypto store these keys on a notebook invest in a physical notebook i know this old analog technology may be like uh foreign to some people but uh having a physical notebook is so so key so this is just uh that really a second thing in my opinion is it may seem very simple but start storing these things offline you cannot trust these things in your notes app you cannot trust these things you know writing down your passwords in google docs i don't know why some people do this it blows my mind you know if you're going to do this if at least get lastpass premium lastpass is great because you can have you can essentially use a new password for each different thing so with uh with lastpass um what you can do is instead of i guess this goes along with in in this step in my opinion so not your keys not to crypto also it evolves around not just cryptocurrency but literally everything let's just talk about this for a second do not use the same password for everything it blows my mind that people are still doing this so if your password is i don't know uh your dog's name like uh roofer three two one or roof exclamation mark roofer three two one that's your password for everything you've been using that since you were 18 years old stop grow up this is ridiculous some people do this until they're like 30. it's absolutely ridiculous so use a different password for everything and an easy way to do this if you're not too like concerned about uh about people like maybe breaking into you i like it like if it's something personal it's not a big deal like i don't know like an airbnb account or a like a booking.com account or it's like if someone hacks in what can they really do with your account um still use lastpass if you're going to store these things digitally that do not actually matter as much um do this with lastpass do this with something where you can actually they generate a password so it's a completely random password similar to like generating a private key but in a micro version um do this with lastpass uh in that way you you can log in with lastpass with a master password and everything there you can just copy and paste it and you're not typing it in every time so lastpass is very easy especially if you're looking for just ease of use um this can be very very important so besides that if we're moving on to step three i apologize that second step was long but i really want you to understand why you're doing this why these three things are in place because you're building best practices it's just like like i said with any other industry it's just like you want to build these best practices in so they're ingrained habits okay because when you let's say your cryptocurrency does 100x which we've seen in past markets then you're holding this for the long run well you don't want to regret this because you were just too i don't mean to be blunt but too lazy to put these back best practices in place so scan for malwarebytes make sure you're writing these things down in a physical notebook invest in a physical notebook i'm telling you and write down these key passwords these key things in a physical notebook consider storing this maybe in a lockbox maybe somewhere important that it won't be easily broken into but uh nobody can hack into your notebook okay so nobody can go online from whatever country and hack into a notebook it's literally impossible so if you have your notebook stored somewhere secure you've checked off step number two now step number three in my opinion a hardware wallet is key now people talk about paper wallets as well but i think hardware wallets are very very powerful things like treasure and leisure now let's discuss some people might be going well ledger was hacked no the wallets were not hacked what was hacked in ledger is is the issue with these companies still and i'm still looking for an innovative product that is not a centralized disease because in order to build a physical product obviously you have to have a physical location where you build these products so they have someone who's emailing they have you know support so there's still these components of centralized businesses in decentralized autonomous organizations so dows and in this cryptocurrency space you see the rise of decentralized autonomous organizations but even with these again typically something like ledger which is not technically a dow but with these even though they're in the crypto space they're still vulnerable to hacks because anyone using an email is vulnerable to hacks what do we just talk about you know someone can get into your email just based off a keystroke blogger a quick like let's say you they get really really innovative with these scams i'm telling you let's say they uh let's say a hacker sent some someone the workmate ledger like customer support agent uh they sent them an email saying hey this is my problem click on this link in the link you can change the link so it looks like legit and they click on the link the person the customer service person maybe they're new clicks on the link now they have a keystroke logger in there just like cookies like if you understand website development how cookies can basically follow you around and show you different advertisements on different areas of the internet it's similar with this and essentially if this customer service person did this it's making their whole database vulnerable so it's it's it's just the uh which doesn't make the individual wallets formidable okay so this is what you have to understand it's it's just the database so the contact information you know sadly it was like uh these email addresses were exposed to these hackers so again it's not hacking into these these physical private wallets okay so it's just hacking into all they really did with ledger was hacking into the database of emails so it's only if you don't know how these scams work you have to kind of reverse engineer this and go okay why would i ever click on something that i don't i don't believe if it's too good to be true it's probably too good to be true okay so i know this is a lot but uh yeah ledger and treasure get a hardware wallet because again not your keys not your crypto and you want this to be stored offline essentially you can plug these into the computer i can do a like a review on a ledger i have both legend no x and ledger nano s basically plug these into your computer you can exchange completely offline um it's just for another video if you don't really understand these but uh yeah that's pretty much it um if you don't understand this ledger thing again they're not they didn't hack into the wallets they hacked into the database like just like for anything when you buy something you enter your billing address you enter your email address you enter your name people basically uh whoever hacked into this customer service individual agents it wasn't the whole database but it was this individual customer service agents um website when their this guy now had access to their home screen so go and see the email addresses and then solicit them but he couldn't actually get into their crypto addresses this is the main thing you have to understand crypto is not as vulnerable as an email address because it's private key cryptography okay so that's pretty much it those three steps just to recap you have scanning your computer for malware simple thing to use malwarebytes we'll also have other things linked down below that you can use then investing in a notebook not your keys not to crypto lastly a private wallet a hardware wallet not necessarily a mobile wallet if you do use mobile wallet use something like trust wallet or exodus those are great ones but that's pretty much it for today's video lastly i do want to say okay i have to touch on this even though i don't want to if you don't know how to avoid these free giveaway things on youtube they run at they send things on twitter they they're in the youtube comments there's probably gonna be comments down below if i haven't reported them yet on you know this person is the best join their telegram group or you know hacker jensen 07 or blah blah blah is incredible and typically they have the weirdest thread because there's comments below these comments so so they leave a comment and they're just bots doing this they leave a comment this person's the best i made so much money with this cryptocurrency is a great investment and especially when you invest with this person and then they have things down below contact this whatsapp number contact this telegram if you seriously think this is a good idea leave stop stop right now none of this is important close your wallet don't invest in crypto you can't handle this because this is simple guys this this is simple these things like today when i'm recording this someone sent a fake elon musk crypto address like what was it five bitcoin which is the time recording this is 243 000 a fake elon what is this so so this is a caveat maybe i should have put this at the beginning of the video and i again i don't mean to be uh i don't mean to be rude i don't mean to be too blunt but it's one of these things where this doesn't just apply to crypto this applies to everything if you're really gonna think that someone online is gonna say you send me one bitcoin i send you two back didn't we do this in the third grade if you didn't learn this lesson this is what blows my mind if you didn't learn this lesson in elementary school that this is not how things work people on the internet do not have your best interest at hearts especially if they're saying like uh i'm gonna send you back double your money this is insane to me so i'll end it off with that i mean i don't even know what else to say and don't fall for these things think really remove emotion and go okay let me rationally think about this why would this person double my money and send it back to me in a way that's never reversed you know if i send them my money there's nothing ensuring this because this is cryptocurrency it's kind of the wild wild west that's why i made this video so i apologize if this went long i hope you got a little bit of value out of it let me know if you start money they saved my life whatever it's really pathetic the people that are doing this in my opinion but hey everybody's gotta hustle and the saddest thing is the only reason they keep doing it is
