Can i industry sign banking alabama presentation mobile

first off thank you all for coming um for those of you that don't know who i am my name is slater dozier and i am what they call rail fan i am a rail enthusiast i love trains and i take pictures and videos and other things like that so we're going to get started here so this presentation covers a variety of things mainly mobile area railroads in their history best places to see trains best tools to see and film trains with and a few other things as in like you know just not messing with anyone not poking the bear as which is kind of code i use so um for uh rail fanning general things you might need cameras for filming lots of people use dslrs uh cell phones have gotten more advanced over the years i use a cell phone to film with film my trains and uh everything it uh works good for me um i'm in no hurry to get another camera it works good for me um scanner it's good for hearing uh training conversations knowing what's moving and what's not uh unizin a uniden bc 125at scanner is what i use i've had for about three or four years and it's still working great um an antenna antenna is a the scanner comes with a stock antenna but there are better ones out there a diamond rh 77c a antenna is recommended and a tripod it is your best friend whenever a loud train is coming by or trained with a loud horn and that way you don't jump out of your skin whenever he laid it lays down the horn right next to you so we're going to get started with csx so the road channel and dispector channel are at the top of the page right there so mobile is home to csx's cyber yard and it's where the csx eminem subdivision which is from montgomery to mobile and the csx no m subdivision from new orleans to mobile and they come together at the yard and originally the line was a part of the louisville nashville railroad or the lnn and has changed hands over the years to the seaboard coastline or family lines to what is now csx so for the m m sub they run ctc on the m m subs meaning they use signal indication and the trains call signals trains that run on this line are csx q601 602 and 605 and 606 and they run between white cross and georgia and new orleans louisiana csx q610 and q611 run between atlanta georgia and new orleans louisiana and csxq 520 and 521 run between nashville tennessee and new orleans louisiana csxq 518 and 519 run between birmingham alabama and mobile alabama and csx m705 and m706 run between mobile alabama and pensacola florida and csx's n239 and n250 through n350 and e239 3e250 run between mobile and birmingham and they don't run all those ids at once they run at most three load and three empty in one day csx also occasionally runs windmill generator trains north from pensacola through flemington alabama just figured i'd throw that in there so about the m m mobile the only really good spot to rail fan on the csx m m sub without having to go all the way up i-65 to bay net is called alidox csx that's the name for the csx control point at this location is right by the kimberley clark mill under the cochrane african town bridge and they run a lot of trains through there is in the magazine area of pritchard it's always good to watch your back while you're out and about haven't had any serious problems here though um csx does have an fra camera up so whenever you are out here be sure to use common sense like if you're going across the tracks cross at the grade crossing don't walk on the railroad things like that so how to get to alidocks if you are on i-165 head towards downtown mobile you are going to get off at the bay bridge road exit and head towards daphne and you're going to stop at this little traffic light intersection down here and you are going to follow this road that goes off to the right right before you get on the bridge and the road mostly goes up under the bridge and the dot right here is the spot is under a conveyor belt and you can pull off under that conveyor belt and just sit out there and watch trains now to the n o m the n o n m also has ctc they also call signals out here it doesn't get as many trains as the m m sub though they only run the colt trains past the convention center to mcduffie coal terminal and the only trains the n o m gets that the m m doesn't get are locals m724 which is a mobile alabama theodore alabama turn job and csx m727 which is on this presentation i have it as mobile alabama pascagoula mississippi turn um recently it became a pascagoula of mississippi to mobile turn job csx does precision schedule railroading so things have more than likely changed since i wrote this presentation and the scanner frequencies for the no and m are the same as the scanner frequencies for the m m so there's really two good spots on the n m um the first one is the convention center it's right in the middle of downtown and the uh tracks run right under the convention center that was the picture that you saw in the opening slide was the convention center it comes under the actual convention center and by the parking lot um it would be advised to not actually get up on the platform because it's a bit close to the railroad i mean for those of you that like to hear train torrents also in no horn zone uh the other spot and it is my favorite is brookly siding there are several places to pull off on the side of the road at well not on the side of the road there are several places to park at and uh see trains and they do go at track speed here so directions to brooklyn siding are shown here um the first dot at the north end i don't know if it shows up well on the video or not but uh there's a parking spot at the north end after you go over the after you get on the michigan avenue exit and you go over i-10 and over the csx you take a right at the first intersection you come to there's a parking lot that's up against the tracks that you can park at and the south end there's a road that you keep going on and it parallels the track for most of the way and there's a uh rental place you can pull off at that's got parking lot and you can sit and wait on trains there both are really good spots now we're on to norfolk southern so these are their scanner channels and norfolk southern is what we call dark territory they that means they use track warrants they the dispatcher has a warrant form typed up and they verbally read out the form to the train crew over the radio and the train crew copies it back to them and it's a whole process so the norfolk southern line in mobile is the ns3b district from birmingham alabama to mobile alabama it is former southern railway territory and this shot here was taken about a little ways north of thomasville alabama which is where i'm from i grew up on this line and picture it here is a still signal for one of the sightings close by and it is former southern i have reason to believe it's former southern railway so as i mentioned it's dark territory they uh use track warrants but the uh trains that mobile gets are ns 384 and 385 which are mobile to they operate between mobile and birmingham a34 and it usually uses the idea id of a48 is a turn local from mobile alabama to macintosh alabama and it comes back to mobile a89 is a turn local from mobile alabama to lemoyne alabama and it works the ssab steel mill there nsa 92 is the morning mobile yard job and i didn't include this but nsa 93 is the afternoon mobile yard job they it's different crews they use the same train alabama is another spot that's north of mobile about an hour north of mobile up highway 43 and it gets more train you see more trains at this spot than you would in mobile so ns182 and 183 are mixed freight trains that operate between birmingham alabama and calvert and 60 and 61c are slap steel trains that operate between hammond indiana and the chicago area and calvert alabama calvert is home to the amns calvert steel mill and sometimes a48s crew comes up to calvert to build the train from 182 and they will usually leave it sitting in the spot that is shown in the picture um ns also uses also implements precision schedule railroading so things tend to change so directions you go north on highway 43 automobile and calvert's just a straight stretch on 43 under when you go under the steel drive exit which leads into the actual calvert mill there is harvard road right after that exit on your right you'll take that right and uh at the bottom of that far-right yellow line is the north end of the siding at calvert and you there are a couple places to pull off on the side of the road at but at the far end far north end of that yellow line is where me and a couple of friends pull off on one side of crossing and we usually it's a pretty good spot to wait and take pictures at that was where the previous picture i shown was taken out so other good spots on the line are bayous air baptist church in saraland alabama i will show directions to that later satsuma alabama is a town north of mobile where the track parallels highway 43 and there are several good spots to park there and wait on trains and st peter's parish church is a church that is has good view of the tracks that's north of barry's steam plan along 43 there's also a defect detector there so you can hear audio about the train it usually says no defects everything's good mount vernon alabama's post office has a good view of the tracks as well and as previously mentioned calvert mcintosh is north of calvert there is an old football field like you can park at which is close to the ns depot you do need to watch your back in this area some uh i've had a few questionable things happening out there but other than that it's okay most of these areas can be found by using google maps and that's how i got the uh maps for this area so canadian national we're on to that now they're scanning channels shown here and the we are on the canadian national beaumont subdivision which goes from jackson mississippi to mobile alabama this has nothing to do with beaumont texas beaumont mississippi is a small town that's sort of in the middle of the two major cities and the line was track track warrant control but it is now controlled by signals so the main question is how do we get a canadian railroad in mobile way back in the day it was originally the golf mobile and northern railroad and they merged with the mobile and ohio railroad 1940 to form the gulfmobile and ohio railroad their old station is still standing today in downtown mobile also wikipedia said that their offices were at 104 st francis street which is not too far from here from 1952 to 1972 and 1972 is when the gmno merged with illinois central railroad to form the illinois central gulf in 1998 canadian national then bought the illinois central gulf railroad so that's how we got a canadian railroad mobile so cn uses ctc on the beaumont sub and this is very recent they installed in december of 2018 they don't have a lot of trains running on the line but the hope is that some industries it towards the port mainly the air motor port and a roll-on roll-off auto facility that's said to be in the works hopefully those spur more traffic on the line for an increase in traffic we have two daily mixed freight trains a 488 71 and a 489 71 which are memphis tennessee and mobile alabama trains and we have two coal trains that run as needed which are c794 91 and c7 9371 which are go from sugar camp illinois to mobile alabama this photo was taken in lewisdale mississippi and another thing i'd like to point out is that cn's train ids are kind of an oddball compared to most uh american train ids the a4 in the first two ids is it indicates that it is a short haul mixed freight and 88 is the id of the train a 488 and seven means that it originates in the gulf sold subdivision which i could be wrong on this but it is from centralia illinois southward so this train originates in that area c79491 originates in another subdivision i don't know that right off the top of my head um and one is the section number of the train meaning if they ran an extra train they run it would be a 488 72 or something like that and this shot was taken in loose deal mississippi at depot road they also run something else i'd like to point out is that at lewisdale cn runs burlington northern santa fe coal trains that go from wyoming to plant daniel and helena mississippi and they get on the mississippi export at evanston mississippi which is basically in loose dale so spots on cn all the good spots on the line are north of belt junction which is now c p francis the best spot is at in my opinion it's at parkview church on ziegler road it's close to the university of south alabama's campus which i go to school there so it's convenient for me there's a gap in the trees where power lines go over and it's wide enough to where you can get halfway decent shots of trains another spot that i use a good bit is sims honor park in sims alabama off of wolf road it is right on the cn main line and judging by the uh age of the rails there is a former gulfmobile northern siding there that cm very rarely uses other good spots outside the mobile area are evanston mississippi which is where the interchange point between the cn and the mississippi export railroad also depot road is another good place to get cn trains which was the spot shown in the previous slide so belt junction there are two spots at bell junction one is a tire store that is actually closer to the y it's marked with a one might not be able to be seen from the video but uh it is right yeah it's right on the y uh downside to this spot is that traffic can be pretty heavy in this area it's highway 98 and it's right at the exit for i-65 so traffic can be pretty heavy in this area um another good spot is the spot mark with a 2 behind the alabama career center there is a parking lot that overlooks the cn going over the bridge over three mile creek bad news is it's about it's a pretty good ways away from the parking lot so you better hope your camera has a good zoom sims honor park is in sims it's right off of wolf road and a way uh not too far off of highway 98 but as you can see by the green dot there it's right off of the cn main line the park view church is right off of zecora boulevard um it's in the curve and there is a gap in the trees there you can sit there wait on trains not many people bother you it's a nice little spot and a convenient location from south alabama alabama export railroad ale it is a subsidiary of mississippi export railroad in evanston and it is the newest railroad in mobile because cn gave alabama export the right to operate everything south of belt junction in mid-2019 there are not many good spots that i know of in this area to get uh alie at but um i mean that's just a matter of me needing to get out some and uh explore but um it's kind of most of their track ridge is kind of in the pritchard area so yeah you need to be very careful out there um this is the only shot i haven't of an aoe engine it was at uh evanston waiting to get taken on down the cn but there's not a lot of good spots to get the ale that i know of aoe basically handles trains coming into the seeing yards whether they be freight going to a freight yard or coal trains going to the coal yard so we're on the alabama gulf coast railway um a note about the previous about this slide the previous slide now um it was taken out of business alongside the csx or terminal railway yard um it's not the best spot to get trains at because the port authority really doesn't like you filming trains out there so um should you ever find yourself in this spot it'd be advised for you not to get out of your vehicle or get the trains from your vehicle and not spending a whole lot of time down there so the road channel is shown here and their dispector channel is also shown there they don't really use it in mobile but in other areas where they have trackage outside mobile they do use it so agr also has a storied past and way back it was originally the alabama tennessee in northern eventually the st louis and san francisco railroad which is otherwise known as the frisco purchased the line in 1948 but it was operated separately and was formally absorbed in 1971. in 1980 the frisco merged with the burlington northern railroad so a little bit about me as you can see i have some very very fond memories of the bn and ventually the bnsf i was around towards the very end of the bn and uh my parents and grandparents knew an engineer that worked for the bn and my grandparents lived in kimbrough alabama which is where the ns and agr interchange is and if the engineer i knew was there they would let me and one of my parents up in the cab and had a lot of good times at the what is now the agr yard north of kimbrough in magnolia alabama as well uh saw a lot of things that are currently not running in this area when i was younger and was very fortunate to be alive back then so another interesting thing i thought i would include about kind of the history of my area is that about two years ago ns replaced the old southern and bn signals that guarded the interchange there and i was very fortunate to get this on transition on camera spent about 20 plus years looking at these signals watching trains pass them so i was glad to get these on camera so back to mergers in december of 1996 the santa fe purchased the bn and now it is the burlington order in santa fe uh eventually bnsf sold their trackage south of kimbrough and agr was created around that time and eventually bnsf wound up making an agreement with the agr to operate all of their trackage south of amory mississippi including getting their trackage rights all the way to mobile alabama at first agr was owned by real america and then it got bought out by gnc and wyoming recently genesee and wyoming has been bought out by brookfield infrastructure partners and gic private limited recently but um they haven't made any drastic paint changes to their engines or anything like that well they've been paying a lot of it into the g w paint scheme and this picture there is an bnsf ethanol train coming through satsuma alabama accrued by uh alabama coast railway crew so operations they you really run two freight trains out of their yard and those trains go up the norfolk southern line to kimbrough and those are agr 411 and 410 which go between magnolia alabama and mobile and they run two yard jobs well a yard job at a local agr 140 is their yard job and agr 150 is their local that goes up to access alabama on what is left of the a and alabama tennessee and northern trackage the i the bnsf id for the ethanol train is u t and d agw is a unit ethanol train that comes from trenton north dakota to alabama gulf coast railway and angry mississippi and it comes down the alabama gulf coast railway and eventually the norfolk southern demobil alabama due to certain constraints on agr they have not been able to run bnsf south of magnolia however so bayoucera baptist church that was mentioned earlier is right off of highway 43 and there's a parking lot out back that faces the agr branch line and the ns mainline and it's another good spot to sit and watch trains at on to the tasd the stage docs terminal railway the scanner channel is shown they usually tend to operate near the port of mobile and it is advised not to film much in that area the port authority really doesn't like that they do have two trains that operate between the air mold port that handle emerald traffic coming to and from cn i believe they are job six going to the emerald port and job five coming from the port so this will be job five showing the picture at the dolphin street railroad crossing which some of you might have gone over on the way over here it's also a decent place to get cn coal trains at when they run and this is a former gmno crossing i believe so that's another interesting thing and we have reached the end of the presentation um again thank you all for coming and uh if y'all have any questions don't be scared to ask thank you for coming
