What is the next wave of innovation in e-commerce after flash sales and private sales?
Ok, I have thought about this a lot having worked on a business plan/model in this space. The next great ecommerce phenomenon will be:FUN. Like not just fun because you got a great deal, or the site has great marketing and is Flashy. Hanging out with your friends at the mall when you're 14 years old was probably the last time you had a FUN experience that involved consumerism. And do you realize it was fun even though you had maybe $18 to spend on something shitty from Anchor Blue or that one pink and black chain (I forgot the name) that sold vaguely adult products. Now all your experiences online or offline are tinged with the maniacal pressure to get the best F-ing deal on the planet, or the sublimated guilt of spending more money than you really feel comfortable doing on some "brand", but hey it's Amazon Prime and it will be here in 36 hours so it's OK! Neither of these scenarios are really pure FUN FUN FUN 'till your daddy takes your T-Bird away.PRODUCT DRIVEN. Both in the sense that the site will be a PRODUCT that the web hasn't seen before: not just a marketing or business model gimmick, or smartly targeted audience segment, or whatever. And in the sense that the PRODUCTS you buy will be front and center in the experience. Will CHANGE what "buying" actually MEANS. Every ecommerce business model I've seen to date actually underwhelms because it aims far too low. The point of the web is that it makes it possible to actually change the definition of vocabulary words we use day in and day out through novel experiences. But all these fancy deal-a-day-private-sale-curated sites still mean "buying" when they say "buying". Thats boring! Will be acutely aware of MIMETIC DESIRE and the full implications of Rene Girard's thinking on modern consumer behavior. So that's my tease about what I think/know the next phenomenon will look like, at least in my imagination. Peace out!

Finding multibaggers is not just about looking at stocks that would give high return on capital, an intelligent investor must also keep the risk factor in mind. Has China’s attitude regarding the South China Sea signNowed the Indian shores?
Yes and No.Let me focus more on their objective (& the question will get eventually answered in the end). This is a very tactically planned geo-political power game where one country plays with the other over control of territories and finally hegemony and influence in the region.A bit of the background in which the India-China tussles have occurred and are still occurring:If the question ideally asks about the expansionist tendency of China, then many incursions and unprovoked face-off have already happened multiple times near Line of Actual Control (LAC), Arunachal Pradesh and recently Uttarakhand.Chinese army intrudes again in Ladakh, pushed back after 3-hour stand-off Scuffle at border as Indian troops counter aggressive Chinese incursions in Arunachal PradeshTensions reportedly eased only after four PLA officers accompanied by an interpreter met Commanding Officer of the Indian Army formation in the area and presented him with two packets of chocolates and one gift packet to the in charge of Yanki-I post. Not even a single fire has been fired in the incursions. Sounds interesting? What China wants to do is to cleverly keep India engaged with these territorial disputes without escalating it to the potential of a full blown war. It also strengthens our friendly neighbour by supplying all kind of modern defence accessories and stuffs in violation of International laws (like NSG). In October 2015, China finalized the sale of eight submarines to Pakistan, and in recent years, Chinese submarines have docked at the Sri Lankan port of Colombo and the Pakistani port of Karachi.China continues to sell nuclear reactors to Pakistan, says report China May Have Helped Pakistan Nuclear Weapons Design, Newly Declassified Intelligence IndicatesThis is a very tactically planned geo-political power game where one country plays with the other over control of territories and finally hegemony and influence in the region. Why is the problem of border disputes not signNowing a constructive solution despite being dragged on for decades? Why China is in no hurry to sort border dispute with India? As of now, in the case of China’s border dispute with India, China is not likely to lose much if it does not resolve the dispute. In fact, the unresolved border dispute has much to offer to China. China even warns India against going to any International body for early settlement. China wont accept arbitration on India border dispute: PLA General Luo Yuan. Because they have the upper hand in negotiation now (economically, militarily and in sphere of influence) and will give back concessions as and when India listens to them. Now, coming back to the question, how do the spheres of influence intertwin in the Indian ocean? As per Indian analysts, China was pursuing a policy of 'encirclement' of India through building a 'String of Pearls' across the northern Indian Ocean that would be available for use by the Chinese navy. Chinese port developments in Myanmar (Kyaukpyu), Bangladesh (Chittagong), Sri Lanka (Hambantota and Colombo) and Pakistan (Gwadar) are often held up as putative Chinese naval bases. The utility of these ports as full scale naval bases in the event of major conflict has been questioned by naval experts. The developments at both Obock and Gwadar in Pakistan will include air bases which could signNowly extend China's signNow.[1] China wants a military base on Maldives in Indian OceanSo, has its South China Sea’s (SCS) attitude entered Indian Shores? Yes, they have already made inroads to the Indian ocean and its neighbouring countries, considered as its area of influence. Now, the important juncture of South China Sea (SCS) comes when India tries to leverage against what China has been doing in Indian ocean. India, the land of Chanakya, will play the game the same way China plays. Although there are no territorial ambitions, India’s interest in South China Sea stems from the fact that about 50% of its trade with Asia is via the waterway. It has vital commercial and strategic stakes that keep its interest alive in the troubled waters.[2]ONGC Videsh -- the overseas oil exploration arm of India, has been searching for hydrocarbons in the SCS off the coast of Vietnam, which it entered in the late 1980s after securing the exploration license for block 06.1. About a decade ago, Vietnam permitted India to explore two more blocks -- 127 and 128 -- which lie in waters also claimed by China. Citing Vietnamese analysts, it said, "Chinese pressure has made India dig in and become more determined to work with [state-run] PetroVietnam." [3]Indian warships enter SCS- The Indian warships will make port calls at Cam Rahn Bay in Vietnam, Subic Bay in the Philippines, Sasebo in Japan, Busan in South Korea, Vladivostok in Russia and Port Klang in Malaysia. Despite its muted response, Beijing undoubtedly regards India’s latest naval deployment as a part of India’s closer integration into the US “pivot” which China is seeking to prevent. New Delhi has been exploiting Beijing’s concerns to try to extract economic and also strategic concessions from China, which is India’s largest trading partner.India, US, Japan Begin Malabar Joint Naval Exercise Close To SCS-India included Japan in Malabar Naval Exercise permanently which was previously just a Indo-US affair. One key elements of the exercise is anti-submarine warfare where three forces will create a scenario of hunting down Chinese submarines. This comes at a time when Chinese nuclear submarines are being increasingly spotted in the western sea board of India. In response to what China has been doing to arm Pakistan, India also started to arm China’s rival Vietnam. During Mukherjee’s visit, India had extended a $100-million-dollar line of credit to Vietnam for defence procurement, with Vietnam looking to use it for getting patrol boats to bolster its naval presence in its territorial waters. Since India joined the Missile Technology Control Regime in June, there has been speculation that the country could export the Brahmos missile to Vietnam.[4]But, India will also give calibrated replies to all the transgressions and not extend beyond a particular limit. So, has South China Sea’s attitude entered Indian Shores? No, not really in the scale of SCS but its definitely relevant. But, how much China will enter Indian shores in future and challenge Indian hegemony will be decided by what political and strategic games India and China play out. What are the things India will use to control China’s behaviour? Major points:1. India and the US announced their agreement “in principle” on a Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) that would give the US armed forces access to Indian military ports and bases. The other pacts under discussion are the Communication and Information Security Memorandum of Agreement (CISMOA) and the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA). China has been very wary of this development as they already have US Navy warships’ presence in Japan & Korea and don’t want further American presence near them. But, India will play with China psychologically. It will not sign all of them and use the rhetoric just to shy away any Chinese naval defence presence in the Indian ocean as the signing gained speed only after the Chinese presence. Maybe, India signs one of them to get access to top US military technology like that of aircraft carrier or armed drones but will never sign all.2. Despite major defence relationship with US, India Rejected Joint Naval Patrols with US in SCS. It doesn’t want to provoke China as it is not directly involved in the SCS. But, at the same time, it sends warship for joint exercises with other countries in the SCS just to keep a check over how much they extend their influence in our backyard.3. This is a very interesting one. The bilateral U.S.-India statement and the Russia-India-China trilateral communique speak to opposing sides on the contentious issue of SCS disputes. While India asks for effective and fair freedom of navigation rules in the former one, in the latter one, it goes soft as it cautions against the internationalization of the disputes and asks for inter-country negotiation based problem solving.[5] Incidentally, India welcomed the Hague ruling on SCS which went against China and asks for force free efforts and peaceful negotiations (China falsely asserts Indian support for its defiance of Hague ruling on sea claims).China's state-run Xinhua news agency said that 'India should realize China's concerns over South China Sea, NSG door not tightly closed'. China blocked India's NSG bid, but now wants help on South China Sea.Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India on a three-day tour from August 12. Wang would try to make efforts aimed at ensuring that Prime Minister Narendra Modi do not join other countries in raising the controversial issue of South China Sea during the upcoming G20 meeting in early September. Now, India stands at a higher ground to force China to understand its concerns like not blocking India's UN bid to ban Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar and eventually chalk out benefits like NSG membership and non-interference in our backyard. Next few months will be very exciting to see.India is expected to play a role in key international matters as it is a major regional and emerging world power with increasing diplomatic outsignNow and fast developing foreign policy nature. India, however underestimated due to its economic prowess compared to China, knows how to play its cards well and it will determine how much Chinese influence comes into the Indian shores.Anyways, I want to end my answer with a happy picture and note that Asian century can only be realized by both India and China working together. We have many robust international collaborations like BRICS, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral meet and a few other where we can share our concerns and solve them collectively. Thanks for reading so far. Good luck my friends. On a different note, if you like my answer, follow me up for more comprehensive answers.Edit1: Just wanted to add one self-descriptive picture about the string of pearls.Footnotes[1] http://>*http://www.lowyinterpre...[2] Narendra Modi to visit Vietnam with eye on South China Sea dispute[3] India wades into South China Sea dispute- Nikkei Asian Review[4] Narendra Modi to visit Vietnam with eye on South China Sea dispute[5] Russia, India, China Address South China Sea in Trilateral Statement
