How to industry sign banking oregon pdf online

In this tutorial I will show you how to use the PICOL label database. PICOL stands for Pesticide Information Center Online. My name is Catherine Daniels and I manage the Washington State Pest Management Resource Service located at Washington State University. PICOL is one of our projects. If you lose your bookmark for PICOL, either do a web search where you spell out the letters P I C O L, or go to the WSPRS web site pictured here and select the PICOL database link in the left hand navigation bar. At the end of this tutorial I'll post my contact information in case you have questions or want to consult on a search. Select the PICOL database. The landing page tells you some information about what the database contains and what it does not contain. For example, we don't list experimental use pesticides. It also tells you that any web labels in the database are for informational purposes only. They can't be used in place of the pesticide container instructions. From the landing page, commercial users can either select the 24c quick search list, or, the full PICOL database of registered labels. In this tutorial we're just going to cover the full database. This includes both home-and-garden and commercial products. The screen that opens next is called the main search screen. It always opens in the PICOL Simple Search option. This is menu driven and is helpful in getting to specific search terms. The other option is the Advanced Search button. This option allows you to fill in search strings in an open text box. It also allows you to search by code rather than common name. Before we begin any database searches let's go to the dictionaries link. The most important part of searching a database is knowing how information is coded in so you can get it out again. Let's look at the Crop Dictionary to see why. Look down the list of names to Apple. The notes field tells you that this term includes dormant uses, and that there are other related crop codes, such as non-bearing apple and post-harvest. Look down at those names and you'll see apple non-bearing specifically means trees that will not produce a harvestable crop for at least one growing season. And, that apple post-harvest always refers to the fruit taken from the tree not the tree itself after harvest. To do a search, put your search term in the open box at the top of the screen. We are going to use the term bulb. Either press the Enter key or the Search button. The search engine will look in the Codes, Name and Notes fields. As you can see from this particular search, we've brought up both food crops and ornamental crops. Once you know the search term you want, select the Return to Query button. In the area that contains the state check boxes, make sure that the state you want, Washington, Oregon, or both, is selected. Check that year of registration is set at current year only unless you want to look at historical labels. Let's take a minute to talk about what current year means. WSDA and ODA process label registrations year-round. There is a lag time of several months before this information gets entered into PICOL even though we are updating the database every day. Let's begin with the Simple Search option. Click on the Item to Search On box, scroll down to see the possibilities. In our first example, we are going to leave it at the default: CROP. This also includes sites. The logic operator choices are EQ for equals and NE for not equals. Whatever item you have chosen in the Item to Search On box, will auto fill the Common Name box. Select the down arrow and choose Cabbage. For our search today, we're going to submit the query, and look at the Search Results page. At the top it tells you the query that you made. This is helpful if you get interrupted in the middle of a search. It also tells you how many labels that the database found using this search term. Today, the number was 1190. That number will change on a daily basis depending upon the registration status of the products. Let's select the Format Labels button to see the list. On the next page we'll choose the output type. The standard output type is the easiest to use because it's a table. The ALL feature can only be used with less than 20 labels. The Tabular feature allows you to select the fields that you want to use to build your own table. For now, let's leave it at the standard output, and then view our labels. This page again tells you the search terms that you used. This is helpful when printing the results and it will also transfer if you choose the Export to Excel button in order to manipulate the data later. There is a trick to reading the PICOL output. If the name, EPA and registrant name is exactly the same on more than one line, but the ingredients are different, then you are looking at a package mixture. For example, Ace Flower and Vegetable Insect Spray, as you can see, is on two lines. The same name, the same EPA number, the same registrant name but different ingredients: piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins. This is the database's way of showing you that this is a package mix that comes with 2 active ingredients. If the name is underlined, that means we have a PDF of the label. If WA is behind that, it means a Washington PDF. OR means an Oregon PDF. These may be the same or they may be different PDFs. So make sure you use the one relevant to your location. As you can see from this search we have a mixture of insecticide and fungicide labels. Let's say we just want to look at fungicides. We are going to refine our query. The database will hold this pool of labels and perform the next search on just this pool as long as you leave the Boolean operator at the default: AND. We are going to select Pesticide Type in the Item to Search On box. Leave the operator at EQ. In the Common Name box, select Fungicide. We'll then submit our query. We've now narrowed it down to 310 matching labels. Let's say we want a specific pest. Again, refine the query, leave it at the default AND, choose Pest in the Item to Search On, EQ, and the Common Name...we are going to press W on the keyboard because what we want to find is White Mold. Submit the query, and as you can see here, in the Search Results screen, we've narrowed it down to 34 labels. Let's format those labels and then view them. Here is your short list, although it is a mixture of homeowner and commercial products. If you are interested in seeing the active ingredients, click on the Format Labels, it will allow you to go back, it's in the same pool of labels, and you can view this in as many different ways as you would like. Under Tabular, let's select Ingredient and view our labels. From this, you have a short list of ingredients that are registered on cabbage in Washington or Oregon for the current year that are fungicides which will control White mold. So we've done menu-driven searches here, narrowed down our original pool of labels. Let's try something a little more complicated. Select New Query. Under Item to Search On, select ingredient. Leave the operator as EQ, and in the Common Name box type in the number 2. Arrow down just a little and you'll see that we are looking at the 2,4-D ingredients. There are about 13 different ones, and unless you know the specific one you need, the best course is to change our search. So click New Query, and Advanced Search. If you are looking for Oregon labels you will again have to select it because when you go back and forth between Simple and Advanced Search it deselects your state. So now, in the Item to Search On, select ingredient. Leave the operator at LIKE. Type in 2,4-D and submit your query. You'll see that today, there are 432 matching labels. Now let's choose a crop. Select Refine Query. We are going to toggle back to the Simple Search because it's easier to find the crop that we want. So now, Crop equals Sweet Corn is our choice today. And we will submit the query. As you can see we are down to 66 matching labels. Let's format those and view them. This standard output table shows the various kinds of 2,4-D that are registered for sweet corn. The Advanced Search is useful for grouping ingredients as we've shown here. It's also useful for going on hunting expeditions in the database, particularly for product names because you can enter partial search strings instead of having to spell it out exactly as we input the entire name or try to find it in the Simple Search. To do that, let's go on to New Query. Go under Advanced Search, select Product Name under the Item to Search On, and type in the word dormant. If you are interested in dormant oils but don't know the exact name this will give you the list quickly. Submit your query, format your labels and view them. This is a much faster way of finding a product name when you know part of the name and you're not entirely sure how we have input it.
