E-signing: Is typing your name on a form and clicking submit hold up as a legal signature?
In states which have passed it, the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) would govern this. Section 7 of UETA, in particular, specifies: SECTION 7. LEGAL RECOGNITION OF ELECTRONIC RECORDS, ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES, AND ELECTRONIC CONTRACTS. (a) A record or signature may not be denied legal effect or enforceability solely because it is in electronic form. (b) A contract may not be denied legal effect or enforceability solely because an electronic record was used in its formation. (c) If a law requires a record to be in writing, an electronic record satisfies the law. (d) If a law requires a signature, an electronic signature satisfies the law.So, assuming that a signature is required for a contract to be valid, an "electronic signature" suffices. UETA defines "electronic signature" as follows:(8) "Electronic signature" means an electronic sound, symbol, or process attached to or logically associated with a record and executed or adopted by a person with the intent to sign the record. In basic language, this means that when you type out your name and click on the "submit" button, you've electronically signed the record, and the official comments to UETA (not technically law, but extremely persuasive) back this up:This definition includes as an electronic signature the standard webpage click through process. For example, when a person orders goods or services through a vendor's website, the person will be required to provide information as part of a process which will result in receipt of the goods or services. When the customer ultimately gets to the last step and clicks "I agree," the person has adopted the process and has done so with the intent to associate the person with the record of that process. The actual effect of the electronic signature will be determined from all the surrounding circumstances, however, the person adopted a process which the circumstances indicate s/he intended to have the effect of getting the goods/services and being bound to pay for them. The adoption of the process carried the intent to do a legally signNow act, the hallmark of a signature.Although not every state has adopted UETA either in part or in whole without modifications, I believe every state now has similar or identical provisions in its body of law. Assuming that this type of waiver would otherwise be legally enforceable (and many jurisdictions don't allow a waiver of liability for injuries under certain circumstances) then it would not be rendered unenforceable simply because it was signed electronically.Of course, in order to ensure the enforceability of any contract, one should generally consult with an attorney who is familiar with contract law in your jurisdiction and who could recommend a set of best practices for the storage and preservation of any contract stored as an electronic record.

Will electronic signatures on contracts hold up in a court of law?
That depends on what exactly you mean by an "electronic signature", and the type of contract that you're trying to enforce. Generally, the fact that a signature is electronic instead of a physical mark is not sufficient for it to be outright ignored by the law. In fact, the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) explicitly allows for the validity of electronic signatures (something I covered in length on Are digital signatures via iPhone/iPad recognized as legally binding?):§ 1-201. General Definitions(39) "Signed" includes any symbol executed or adopted by a party with present intention to authenticate a writing. This is why an "X" on a contract is sufficient to count as a signature - it is a "symbol" that is "executed" by a party with "intent" to "authenticate" the contract.§ 2-211. Legal Recognition of Electronic Contracts, Records, and Signatures(1) A record or signature may not be denied legal effect or enforceability solely because it is in electronic form.(2) A contract may not be denied legal effect or enforceability solely because an electronic record was used in its formation.(3) This article does not require a record or signature to be created, generated, sent, communicated, received, stored, or otherwise processed by electronic means or in electronic form.(4) A contract formed by the interaction of an individual and an electronic agent under Section 2-204(4)(b) does not include terms provided by the individual if the individual had reason to know that the agent could not react to the terms as provided. This basically means that, just because the "signature" is in electronic format, it's entirely valid.§ 2-212. ATTRIBUTIONAn electronic record or electronic signature is attributable to a person if it was the act of the person or the person's electronic agent or the person is otherwise legally bound by the act. This allows you to have PayPal or some other third party or application to which you've assigned the power bind you to a contract.

Which tools help to boost work productivity?
First things first, from all the tools I use, I’m listing a few that save me an immense amount of time. Thus helping me focus on things that matter. Here goes my list:Pocket - A handy tool to save useful links. After a while, my bookmarks are just unorganised and Pocket made it simple to save links. I could save everything in one place and hence retrieval is easy. Also, If I ever come across something during work that might be a distraction, I Pocket it and read it later.Buffer - Primarily I use this to manage posts and content from our SM handles. I schedule posts at one time and never have to look at it again. This saves a lot of time as I can dedicatedly work on the content and push them to the pipeline.LearnBee - (Disclaimer: my team built it and I use it every day). I use it to find a specific work file quickly or to attach multiple work files in an email or to search for a file to show to the team during a meeting. The Chrome extension just saves me an immense amount of time, which I otherwise waste searching for a file.Jira and Trello - Both of these tools help me individually as well as my team to prioritize, organise and complete tasks in a better and efficient way.

How exactly did humans find out what the rings of Saturn are made of?
It was Dutch Astronomer Christiaan Huygens who first noted, in a scope that was modest by today’s standards but exceptional for 1655, that “Saturn is surrounded by a thin ring nowhere touching, inclined to the ecliptic.”That discovery began the slow, incremental, progress in understanding the makeup of the rings. The first advancement in determining the makeup of the rings came from improved optics. Italian Astronomer Giovanni Cassini devised several telescopes that gave a improved images over that of Huygens. Through this he was the first to note that the rings were not, apparently, one solid mass. They were, in fact, divided into at least two “ringlets”. The Cassini Division, a dark band in the rings clearly visible in small telescopes, was discovered by him.Cassini’s original drawing of his eponymous division:Further observations that the rings changed in appearance as one moved outward from Saturn, suggested to some that they were at least made up of many individual ringlets. These were given names in order of their discovery. The two that Cassini discovered were called A and B. Inside B was the faint C ring, and inside that was the Elusive D ring. (Discovery of the E, F, and G rings came only from space probe imagery.)In the 1850s, the physicist James Clerk Maxwell published papers that showed that if the rings of Saturn were solid, they would be unstable and would either fall into the planet or break apart. He demonstrated that the rings had to be made up of countless small particles all orbiting Saturn.Further advancements came from the science of Spectroscopy. Here’s how this works:All materials in nature emit, absorb, and reflect light at frequencies that depend on what they are made out of. One can take the light from an object, run it through a special type of prism known as a spectroscope, and analyze the light it gives off for the spectral signature of various elements. Here, for instance, are the emission spectrums (the light that is given off when they are in gaseous form and are energized) of several common elements:In most cases the spectra that we note are the absorption spectra. That is, we see the frequencies of light that the various elements absorb when placed against a bright background like that of a star. Happily, they are exactly the inverse of the emission spectra- that is, the pattern is the same. Elements that emit a given frequency of light when they are energized, absorb that same frequency of light when light passes through them. When astronomers want to know what something is made out of, they look for these emission (in the case of bright nebulas) or absorption (in the case of everything else) spectra. Here is the emission spectrum of the sun, for instance:In this spectrum, you can find hints of dozens of elements. The big dark one on the top right in the deep red region is the “h-alpha” line of hydrogen. Given that the sun is primarily made up of hydrogen (indeed, this is how we figured it out) the prominence of this particular line makes sense. In practice, this is not all that simple. One has to “subtract” the effects of Earth’s atmosphere and the light of the sun. However, it is, perhaps, the most important and effective tool in the toolkit of astronomers. In the case of the rings of Saturn, the substances in question were not atomic gasses at high temperature in the atmosphere of the star, but cold molecules. The absorption spectra of molecules (rather than monoatomic- single atom- elements) generally resides in the infrared and microwave regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.By taking light from the sun that is reflected off the rings and running it through a spectrograph astronomers get something like this:The above image is a composite image of Saturn and a small portion of the spectrum of the infrared light that is given off of Saturn and its rings passed through a spectrograph and “smeared out” to the right. The dark lines across the spectrum can be analyzed to determine which elements show up in the rings and and body of the planet. This image is just a tiny portion of a much larger spectrum that shows saturn to have a strong signature of hydrogen, helium and methane, while Saturn’s rings are dominated by water ice. (Note: this spectrum, from the Subaru telescope doesn’t contain the relevant regions. I use it to illustrate the concept.)One other interesting thing can be noted in the above image- the orbital velocity of the rings. You note that on the top of the image, the lines are shifted slightly to the left compared to the bottom. This is because of the slight doppler shift in light from the ring particles that are either moving towards us, on one side of the planet, or away from us, on the other.Further analysis of the makeup of the rings can be gleaned by stellar occultation- the practice of watching the light from a star as it winks off and on as it passes behind something.By watching the light from stars pass behind the rings, astronomers were able to determine that the main “lettered” ringlets were made of countless smaller divisions. This can be done in a rudimentary way from the ground. Even better, however, one can use spacecraft such as the Cassini probe to get high resolution stellar occultations:With this technique, astronomers can determine not only the width and density of various ringlets, but, to a certain degree, the size distribution of the particles and clumps within the rings. The red line above shows how much ultraviolet light passed through the rings from a chosen star (in this case, the sun) as the rings came between Cassini and it.Finally, space probes have allowed us to take close up pictures and, in the case of the outer diaphanous E and G rings actual samples- of the rings giving us a stunning portrait of their shape and makeup:An extreme closeup showing, at left, how the ring material is somewhat “clumpy”.A “propeller”, caused by the small moonlet orbiting within the rings and perturbing the material with its weak gravity:A picture taken near Saturn’s “equinox”, when sunlight is nearly parallel with the ring plane. This shows how the material in the rings can be deflected upwards slightly by tiny moonlets:And, finally, one of the most glorious images ever taken. This is a composite image taken in the shadow of Saturn, showing the rings backlit. The extremely thin, outer, E ring is clearly visible. Just inside that is the G ring, created by the geysers from the icy moon Enceladus. The illumination on the back side of Saturn is from light that is reflected off of the rings and onto the body of the planet. Saturn nights are never truly dark!
